Modifications of female sex chromatin (Barr body) in rat neurons after reserpine administration

Summary 3 groups of rats were sacrificed 30 min, 4 h and 24 h after reserpine (10 mg/kg, i. p.) injection. Toluidine blue stained sections showed that in the motor neurons of the spinal cord the drug, at 4 h, had induced a migration of the Barr body from the nucleolus to the nuclear membrane and an increase in its size and RNA concentration. From our findings we suggest that reserpine may have an activating role on X-linked genes.Supported by grant 0230-135 of the National Research Foundation of Greece.     

Leão's spreading depression in the thalamic nuclei of rat

Zusammenfassung Mit KCl-Microinjketion werden im Thalamus langsame Potentialwellen hervorgerufen, deren Amplitudendauer und Aubsreitungsgeschwindigkeit der «spreading depression» vonLe~ao (SD) entspricht. Die Bedingungen für SD-Entwicklung sind infolge grösserer Zelldichte in der Gruppe der medialen thalamischen Kerne besser als in den lateralen und posterioren Kernen, was sich in der verminderten Amplitude des langsamen Potentials und in häufigem Wegfall einer positiven Reaktion zeigt.     

Glutamate decarboxylase activity in preoptic and hypothalamic nuclei of the rat

Summary Freeze-dried samples were used for the determination of glutamate decarboxylase activity in discrete preoptic and hypothalamic nuclei. The activity showed marked regional variation in distribution.     

Giant pigment granules in dermal melanocytes of rat scrotal skin

Summary Giant melanosomes, ellipsoidal (1.5 m×1.3 m) or spherica (1.1 m–1.4 m in diameter) exist in the scrotal skin of the black pelted Long Evans rat. Ultrastructure of the rat neurohypophysis following electric stimulation of the supraoptic nuclei]

By means of electrical stimulation of the supraoptic nuclei, in a stereotaxic apparatus, partial or complete degranulation of the neurohypophysis is obtained, with often a continued presence of large vesicles; the number of microvesicles is always increased.     

On the dependence of nuclear oxidative phosphorylation on glycolysis in isolated rat thymus nuclei

Résumé Les expériences présentées montrent qu'il est possible d'inhiber au maximum la glycolyse des noyaux isolés du thymus de rat, sans influencer la respiration et la synthèse d'ATP. Elles suggèrent ainsi que, dans ces noyaux, la phosphorylation oxydative ne dépend pas forcément de la glycolyse.     

Changes in dry mass of rat liver nuclei in chronic thioacetamide poisoning

Riassunto Dopo intossicazione con TAA, l'aumento di volume dei nuclei di fegato isolati è sostenuto sia da un accresciuto contenuto di acqua che di sostanze solide. Anche il rapporto fra sostanze solubili e insolubili è modificato.     

Lack of major cytoplasmic protein contamination of rat liver nuclear chromatin

Résumé Des mesures quantitatives et des modèles sur gels d'acrilamide ont permi de conclure que les protéines cytoplasmiques préparées de cette manière ne produisent pas de contamination appréciable.

Summary Cytosolic estrogen and androgen receptors and membrane prolactin-binding sites in the male adrenal glands showed a definite pattern during sexual development.
