Correlation between the regional blood volume and epileptic seizures in Papio papio]

The method of labelling red cells with technetium-99m was used to measured regional blood volume auring different types of epileptic seizures induced in the Baboon Papio papio. During seizures the cerebral blood volume increases and there is simultaneously a decrease of blood volume in nasal and hepatic regions, and a transitory increase of blood volume in the forepaws.

Zusammenfassung 1. Im Gegensatz zum Hund entwickelt sich beim Pavian keine Fettleber nach Hypophysektomie oder Thyreoidektomie oder nach einer Kombination dieser beiden Eingriffe.2. Thyroxin wirkt als Antagonist hemmend auf die Fettbildung, die durch Cortison beim hypophysektomierten Pavian angeregt wird.3. Starke Leberverfettung entsteht bei hypophysektomierten Pavianen nach gleichzeitiger Entziehung von Cortison und Thyroxin.

Résumé Après ablation de la glande pituitaire, ledérèglement du du métabolisme des hydrates de carbone persiste, tandis que l'intense lipémie est abolie. L'administration de la cortisone aux babouins pancréas- et hypophysectomisés privés d'insuline, rétablit la lipémie mais non la cétonémie.Le dérèglement du métabolisme des hydrates de carbone dans les babouins diabétiques peut être dissocié de celui des lipides par un traitement approprié des glandes endocrines.La cétonémie des babouins pancréas- et hypophysectomisés, contrairement à la lipémie, n'est pas rétabli par l'administration de la cortisone, thyroxin ou par une combinaison de ces hormones.     

Biological and biochemical characterization of a new isolate of baboon Papio papio endogenous type C virus]

A new strain of Baboon Papio papio endogeneous type C virus was isolated from the testis of an animal of this species. The strain was characterized biochemically and biologically. It presents a host-range different from that of the prototype strain of the same virus.

The surface of ovarian oocytes is evenly covered with finger-like microvilli about 1 micron long. Penetration of capcitated spermatozoa in the zona pellucida apparently occurs after acrosome reaction and though a narrow slitmmorulae are constituted of rounded blastomeres, usually of similar size and microvillous covering. A few blastomeres may be smaller than others, probably as a result of faster mitotic rate in one of the blastomeres compared to adjacent ones. Microvilli are numerous in the interblastomeric furrows where junctional ridges are not observed at the 30-40 cell stage.

Electron microscopic examination of samples of Swiss wine, collected during the malolactic fermentation, revealed the presence of bacteriophages of three different morphological types. It is interesting to note that these phages have been found in a product whose pH is lower than 3.5.     

Phyletic affinities among Polystomatidae (Monogenea)]

The chaetotaxy and ciliated cells in two Monogenean larvae of marine fishes are described for the first time: a Monopisthocotylea Diplectanum aequans (Wagener, 1857) Diesing, 1858 parasite of Dicentrarchus Labrax (L) and a Polyopisthocotylea, Microcotyle mormyri Lorenz, 1878 parasite of Pagellus mormyrus (L). A comparative study with the known larvae shows evidence of two larval types in the Monogenea of fishes, related to the two great phyla of the class: the Monopisthocoytylea and Polyopisthocotylea. The Polystomatidae, Monogenea from Amphibia and Chelonia, belong to the Polyopisthocotylea on account of their larval chaetotaxy. But the proximity of the Polystomatidae with the Tetraonchidae, within the Polyonchoinea Bychowsky, 1975 is not confirmed.

The activity of Artemia protocerebral median neurosecretory cells is stimulated when animals are grown in media whose tonicity is lower than that of sea weater. The substance liberated by these cells could regulate the tonicity of the internal medium.
