Correlation between the susceptibility of E. coli to phagocytosis and their ability to invade HeLa cells in vitro

Summary The susceptibility of several strains of E. coli to phagocytic killing by polymorphonuclear leucocytes and the ability of the same strains to invade HeLa cells were studied. It was found that only the strains resistant to killing by leucocytes were able to penetrate and multiply within HeLa cells.Acknowledgments. We thank Dr Bianca Pani who supplied us with HeLa cells. Maintenance of the ability of cells cultivatedin vitro to commence formation of antibodies

Zusammenfassung Aus einem normalen, nicht immunisierten Kaninchen isolierte Milzzellen, welchein vitro 6, 12, 24 und 48 h kultiviert und nachher zusammen mitBrucella-suis-Antigen in das Peritoneum neugeborener Kaninchen übertragen wurden, erzeugen Antik?rper. Die Antik?rper werden im Serum der Empf?nger, das heisst neugeborener Kaninchen, welche selbst noch nicht zur Antik?rperbildung bef?higt sind, festgestellt. Falls die Milzzellen nach 72stündiger oder l?ngerer Kultivierung auf neugeborene Kaninchen übertragen werden, ist diese übertragung niemals von Antik?rperbildung begleitet.      

The effects of some tetracycline derivates on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma and HeLa cells in vitro

Zusammenfassung In-vitro-Nachweis der Hemmung der Proteo- und Nukleosynthese in den EAC-Zellen, sowie des Wachstums der HeLa-Zellen mit folgenden Derivaten des Tetrazyklins: Anhydrotetrazyklin, 4, 12-Anhydrodedimethylaminotetrazyklin und 12-Deoxydedimethylaminotetrazyklin.     

Effect of colicin E3 on leukemia cells P388 in vitro.

Proliferation of murine leukemia cells P388 is stimulated by less than 1.0 mg/ml colicin E3, while being inhibited by higher concentrations. By 1.6 mg/ml colicin E3, uptake of thymidine into cold TCA-precipitable fraction is decreased by 59% during 24 h, uptake of uridine by 29%.     

Correlation between the carcinogenicity of organic substances and their spectral characteristics

Summary A correlation between the carcinogenicity of organic substances and their UV-absorption characteristics has been established. It is found that chemical carcinogens have absorption maxima in the wavelength region of 206–248 nm. On the basis of revealed correlation, a mechanism of chemical carcinogenesis is proposed.
