Summary Halogenated benzenesulfonanilides have potent fasciolicidal activity. The efficacy of 1 such compound in mice, sheep, and cattle is reported.Appreciation is expressed to Dr M. The toxic action of halogenated alkylating substances on insects. Inhibition of triosephosphate dehydrogenase

Zusammenfassung Nachdem die Verfasser auf ihre früheren Aufsätze über die auf Insekten wirkenden alkylisierten halogenierten Stoffe hingewiesen haben, fassen sie die Ergebnisse zusammen, die sie bei der Wirkung der genannten Stoffe auf die in den Muskelgeweben vonP. americana undM. domestica befindlichen Triosephosphatdehydrogenasen (TPD) erzielt haben.Die Dosierung der TPD ist kolorimetrisch bestimmt worden, indem 2,6-Dichlorphenol-Indophenol als Wasserstoffakzeptor gebraucht wurde.Es hat sich gezeigt, dass TPD sowohlin vitro wiein vivo inhibiert wird. In Hausfliegen hat die Mortalität der Fliegen und die TPD-Inhibition bezüglich der verschiedenen Stärken der Dichloressigsäure einen parallelen Verlauf, und die Inhibitionswerte sind niedriger als die der Mortalität.Hausfliegenstämme, die während 20 Generationen hindurch im Chloressigsäurekontakt selektioniert wurden, weisen weder eine auffällige Resistenzzunahme gegen diesen Stoff noch eine Steigerung von TPD in den Extrakten dieser Fliegen auf.     

Morphogenic effects of halogenated thymidine analogs onDrosophila III. 5-Iododeoxyuridine

Zusammenfassung Die Häufigkeit der durch 5-Iododeoxyuridin (IUdR) beiDrosophila induzierten Abnormalitäten kann durch gleichzeitige Fütterung der Larven mit 5-Fluorouracil (FU) erhöht werden. Die Menge des in dieDrosophila-DNS inkorporierten IUdR ist bei Anwesenheit von FU höher; die Verteilung dieser IUdR-DNS im CsCl-Dichtegradienten ist verschieden von der in Abwesenheit von FU synthetisierten DNS.

The effect of levamisole on phosphodiesterase activity.

Phosphodiesterase activity of mouse liver homogenates was estimated in presence and absence of levamisole. The enzyme activity was 1394 and 1399 nmoles/mg protein/30 min respectively. Our data show that levamisole does not affect the phosphodiesterase activity.     

Aragusterol C: A novel halogenated marine steroid from an Okinawan sponge,Xestospongia sp., possessing potent antitumor activity

A novel chlorinated steroid, aragusterol C, was isolated from an Okinawan marine sponge of the genusXestospongia. The compound strongly inhibited the proliferation of KB cells in vitro, and also showed potent in vivo antitumor activity against L1210 cells in mice. The complete structure of aragusterol C was determined by spectroscopic analysis and X-ray crystallographic analysis.     

The synthesis of a decapeptide with glycosidase activity

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund theoretischer Überlegungen sollte das Dekapeptid Glu-Phe-Ala-Ala-Glu-Glu-Ala-Ala-Ser-Phe Glykosidase-Aktivität besitzen. Das synthetische Produkt bestätigt diese Erwartung sowohl gegenüber Chitin als auch Dextran.

The generation of toxic activity from trypanosoma congolense.

Trypanosoma congolense organism, on incubation at 20 degrees C for 91/2h, were found to generate phospholipase like activity which was capable of mediating lysis of both nucleated cells and erythrocytes as well as acute inflammatory response on intradermal inoculation.     

Influence of halogenated deoxyuridines on the radiation sensitivity ofEscherichia coli

Zusammenfassung Halogenierte Deoxyuridine IUDR, BUDR und FUDR wurden im Medium als bakterielle Sensibilisatoren für Röntgenstrahlen untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, dass nur IUDR als Sensibilisator funktionieren kann, scheinbar sowohl durch die Bildung des langlebigen giftigen molekularen Jods als auch durch die Bildung des kurzlebigen giftigen Jod-Atoms.

The sedative effects of nicotinamide on gerbil wheel-running activity.

The activity of 5 groups of gerbils was monitored over 22 days. 3 of the groups received daily injections of nicotinamide (125, 250 or 500 mg/kg) and a 4th group received saline. The 5th group was untreated. The results indicated that both the 250 and 500 mg/kg nicotinamide administrations greatly reduced the activity levels of the gerbils.     

The human urinary gastric inhibitor displays blood-group activity.

The human urinary glycoprotein with gastric antisecretory activity displays a marked blood-group activity corresponding to the blood-group of the subject examined. Several studies exclude the possibility that the activity is due to contaminants.     

The loss of biological activity of 5-hydroxytryptamine creatinine sulphate.

5-Hydroxytryptamine creatinine sulphate loses its biological activity when maintained at room temperature. The loss of 5-HT activity (in stimulating sodium transport across frog skin) is greater than the loss of creatinine sulphate activity (inhibition of sodium transport).

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass die Dehydrogenase-Aktivität im Hepatopankreas, Fuss und Schlundring bei der Lugenschneckeariophanta sp. eine ausgesprochene Enzymanpassung an die veränderten Stoffwechselbedingungen während langfristiger Hungerperioden zeigt und damit auf einen Überlebensmechanismus hinweist.     

The effect of heat on rat pineal hydroxyindole-omichron-methyl transferase activity.

Exposure of adult male rats to continuously elevated temperature of 32-34 degrees C caused a significant decrease of HIOMT activity involved in the specific metabolic process of production of melatonin, considered an active pineal hormone. The effect was already evident after 24 h exposure and increased further during the next 48 h. The results obtained substantiate previous data that the pineal gland may be involved in the system regulating adaptation to extreme temperature changes.
