The ethereal extract of the mucous secretion from the opisthobranch mollusc Oxynoe olivacea was examined and found to contain two novel ichthyotoxic compounds, named oxytoxin 1 and 2 (1,2). The structures of 1 and 2 are closely related to the metabolites previously isolated from the alga Caulerpa prolifera. The activity of the most stable compound was studied in order to investigate the possibility of a further biological role for these metabolites, which represent an uncommon example of bioactive molecules produced in vivo from a dietary precursor.  相似文献

Chemical studies of the Caribbean red algaVidalia obtusaloba have resulted in the isolation of two new bromophenolic metabolites, vidalols A and B (1, 2). The new compounds were discovered as part of an organized effort to isolate new naturally-occurring anti-inflammatory agents with a focus upon those which may function through the inhibition of phospholipase A2.  相似文献

Summary Electron microprobe analyses of the calcified stylets produced by the nemertean wormAmphiporus formidabilis reveal large calcium and phosphorus peaks. IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction indicate that the calcium and phosphorus in stylets constitute an amorphous calcium phosphate rather than a crystalline mineral phase.  相似文献

To study the origins of biologically active substances in marine sponges, a carotenoid produced by a marine bacterium,Pseudomonas sp. strain number KK10206C, which was associated with a marine sponge,Halichondra okadai, was investigated. A visible absorption spectrum-guided isolation procedure led to the isolation of a novel C50-carotenoid, okadaxanthin. Its structure, 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-2-methyl-2-butenyl)-,-carotene, was elucidated mainly by spectroscopic methods. Okadaxanthin turned out to be a potent singlet oxygen quencher, approximately 10 times as strong as -tocopherol.  相似文献

Isometachromin (1), a new sesquiterpene-quinone that is related structurally to metachromin C (2), and the known compounds ilimaquinone (3) and and 5-epi-ilimaquinone (4), were isolated from a deep water sponge in the family Spongiidae; the structure of isometachromin was elucidated by spectral methods. Isometachromin exhibits in vitro cytotoxicity against the human lung cancer cell line A 549 (IC50=2.6 g/ml), but not against P 388 murine leukemia (IC5010 g/ml) and also exhibits antimicrobial activity.This research is Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) contribution number 911. Summary A new sulfated polyhydroxy benzaldehyde has been isolated from extracts of the temperate colonial ascidianPolyclinum planum. The structure of the new metabolite was solved by an X-ray crystallographic study. The highest concentration of this metabolite was found in the zooid-rich outer layers of this ascidian suggesting that it may represent a potential chemical defense against predators.  相似文献

Summary Greenbugs of biotype E that grow and reproduce well on a biotype C-resistant sorghum (IS 809) were crossed with biotype C greenbugs. The resulting hybrids were tested on IS 809 to study how the ability to overcome the cultivar's resistance is inherited. Only those hybrids stemming from biotype E mothers were able to overcome the resistance of IS 809 plants, indicating that this trait is inherited by the sexually-produced fundatrices in an extra-nuclear manner from the mother. A plausible explanation for this phenomenon is presented.  相似文献

Summary Paracelsin, a hemolytic and membrane active polypeptide antibiotic of the peptaibol class which is excreted by the moldTrichderma reesei, was obtained by a simplified and isolation procedure utilziing hydrophobic adsorber resin. Investigation by13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and circular dichroism revealed considerable helical portions in solution, and the very recently accomplished sequence determination of paracelsin allows the discussion of the results with regard to the closely related analogues, alamethicin and suzukacillin. A selective cleavage of the peptide was achieved by careful treatment with various acids, and a buffer of pH 8.25 and of high ionic strength made possible the quantitative determination of the C-terminal phenylalaninol released by means of ion-exchange chromatography. The significance of the production of paracelsin and related mycotoxins of the peptaibol class, exhibiting various kinds of biological activity, is discussed with respect to the extensive effort being made towards biotechnological applications of species, strains and cellulolytically highly active mutants of the fungusTrichoderma.Presented in part at the 5th European Symposium on Animal, Plant and Microbial Toxins, Hannover, August 29–September 2, 1983 and a lecture given at Ciby-Geigy/Basel in March 1984.Acknowledgment.
