Summary A spontaneous mutant ofP. anserina isolated by screening for benomyl resistance exhibited a diurnal growth rhythm dependent on light-dark cycles. The rhythmic character, the benomyl resistance and a growth rate reduced to 50% of that of the wild type were inherited together over more than 10 generations. The locus was mapped on linkage group II, 0.35 map units distal to the locusz (=0.81 map units from the centromere).  相似文献

Summary Tyrosine aminotransferase activity ofEuglena oscillates with an ultradian period of approximately 4–5 h. The oscillation frequency in the time series was determined by cosine fitting. Experiments which were performed between 16 and 31.5°C revealed temperature compensation.  相似文献

Summary Optical methods for monitoring neuron activity were developed because these methods lend themselves to simultaneous multiple-site measurements. With the use of new voltage-sensitive dyes, the dye-related pharmacology and photodynamic damage appear to be relatively unimportant. Using multiple-site measurements made with a 124-element photodiode array, we estimated that approximately 30 of the 200 neurons present in theNavanax buccal ganglion make action potentials during feeding and that approximately 300 of the 1100 neurons present in theNavanax buccal ganglion make are active during the gill-withdrawal reflex. The fact that a light mechanical touch to the siphon skin activated such a large number of neurons in the abdominal ganglion suggests that understanding the neuronal basis of the gill-withdrawal reflex and its behavioral plasticity may be forbiddingly difficult.  相似文献

Summary Oxygen consumption of gill, brain and muscle tissues ofChanna striatus exhibits a clearcut circadian rhythm with a maximum uptake at 18.00 h. Metasystox exposure decreased the oxygen consumption of all tissues. Maximum reduction is noted in gill followed by brain and muscle. Summary 1212-h cycles of presence and absence of mother mouse act as a zeitgeber and entrain the circadian rhythm of locomotor activity in the pups ofMus booduga under continuous darkness or continuous dim light. Continuous higher illumination of 15–25 lx abolishes this impressive maternal entrainment.Acknowledgment. Summary Under conditions of constant darkness, rhabdom volume and the amount of visual pigment chromophore show circadian changes in the compound eye of the crabHemigrapsus sanguineus. Summary Dry and presoaked seeds ofNigella damascena were treated with aqueous extracts of the mushroomPaxillus involutus. At the first mitosis after the onset of germination, metaphase chromosomes showed damage independent of the origin of the mushrooms. The damaging substance(s) is (are) thermostable. Except a few achromatic gaps, all the lesions observed are of the chromosome type, i.e. are induced at the pre-synthetic G1 stage.  相似文献

Summary Carbohydrase activity has been demonstrated in homogenates of the alimentary tracts of late instar larvae ofC. maculatus:-D galactosidase, -D glucosidase and N-acetyl-D glucosaminidase activities were comparable and significantly greater than -D galactosidase,-D glucosidase and -D mannosidase. The effects of pH and substrate concentration are reported. The presence and changes in pattern of non-specific esterase activity in larval and adult gut homogenates is also described.  相似文献

Summary The autonomic nerve system which controls extracardiac pulsations of hemolymph pressure appears to be quite susceptible to cholinesterase inhibitors (physostigmine, organophosphorus insecticides). In pupae ofTenebrio molitor L. andGalleria mellonella L., the treatment induced large peaks in hemolymph pressure (over 4 kPa). The peaks were repeated at more-or-less constant, 30-s intervals for several hours or days. Removal of the pupal brain neither affected extracardiac pulsations nor influenced the specific responses to the investigated drugs or insecticides.  相似文献

Summary The study of malate dehydrogenase patterns in leaves ofNicotiana suaveolens, N. glutinosa and their interspecific hybrid has been carried out, in order to propose a model of its genetic control. Two possible explanations for the genetic control of malate dehydrogenase have been postulated forN. suaveolens, and at least two loci appear to be implicated in the control of this system inN. glutinosa.Acknowledgments. Summary Internal head heating restricted the flight activity in the cockroachPeriplaneta americana. Heating the metathoracic ganglion did not have any pronounced effect on the flight. A melatonin rhythm was observed in the pineals of 18-day-old chick embryos incubated under a light-dark regime of 186 h. A low pineal melatonin content was found during the light phase of the day. Concentrations started to increase 2 h after dark onset and reached maximum levels after 4 h of darkness. The amplitude of the pineal melatonin rhythm increased considerably after 2 days and night-time concentrations in 20-day-old embryos were more than 5 times higher than in 18-day-old ones. Significant day/night differences in melatonin production were found both in pineals and eyes. Exposure of eggs to 1 h of light during the dark period decreased the high melatonin concentrations in the eyes but not in the pineals of the 20-day-old chick embryo. The results suggest that in this precocial bird at least part of the circadian system may already operate during embryonic life.  相似文献

Summary The circadian clock in the unicellular algaGonyaulax polyedra is accelerated by a substance in extracts from the cells themselves. The extracts have been fractionated using the circadian rhythm of bioluminescence as bioassay. The active substance, termed gonyauline, has been isolated and characterized as a novel low molecular weight cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (S-methyl-cis-2-(methylthio) cyclopropanecarboxylic acid).
