Riassunto Si è studiato l'effetto dell'etilene su culture di cellule diNicotiana tabacum, in vitro. I risultati ottunuti mostrano che le auxine in presenza di etilene inibiscono la crescita di frammenti di callus, e che tale inibizione viene rimossa dalla kinetina.

Corticosteroid effects on cholinergic enzymes in ethanol-treated fetal brain cell cultures

Summary In the presence of ethanol, corticosterone and dexamethasone inhibit choline acetyltransferase and acetylcholinesterase activities in cultured fetal brain cells of the rat. These results suggest that corticosteroids may have an important influence on the activity of cholinergic enzymes in the fetal brain and may antagonize the effects of ethanol in this setting.

Zusammenfassung Hypotonische Streuungen, die in radiobestrahlten Kulturen menschlicher Lymphozyten Chromosomenaberrationen erkennen liessen, traten dort siebenmal häufiger auf als in unbestrahlten Kulturen; offenbar das Ergebnis einer wärmefreien Bestrahlung. Trotz des Fehlens bedeutender Unterschiede in der DNA-Synthese, der Zellvergrösserung und im mitotischen Index zwischen bestrahlten und unbestrahlten Kulturen kam es zu Aberrationen.

The effects of physostigmine on the oxygen uptake in rat brain tissue

Summary Physostigmine in a dose of 0.1 mg/kg i.v. expressly stimulated the oxygen uptake in the rat cerebral cortex. This effect was blocked by propranolol and seems be mediated by catecholamines. Since atropine also antagonized the stimulant effect of physostigmine, it appears that the action of physostigmine is primarily cholinergic and that the adrenergic effect is a secondary phenomenon. The higher dose of physostigmine (0.4 mg/kg i.v.) caused a depression of rat brain oxygen uptake.This work was supported by a grant from Serbian Republic Scientific Fund (ZMNU SR Srbija), Belgrade (Yugoslavia).The authors wish to acknowledge the skilful technical assistance of Lj. Collagenolytic enzymes and acid-proteinase activity in granuloma tissue

Zusammenfassung Die Kathepsin D-Aktivität des kollagenolytischen Kathepsins und der Pz-Peptidase wurden während der Bildung des mittels s.c. Injektion von Terpentinol hervorgerufenen Granuloms bei Ratten verfolgt. Die Kathepsin D-Aktivität erreichte am 10. Tag ihren Höhepunkt, diejenige des kollagenolytischen Kathepsins und der Pz-Peptidase erst am 14. Tag. In dieser Phase ist die Kollagenkonzentration herabgesetzt, während sich eine ausgeprägte Resorption des Granuloms zeigt.     

Effects of carmine and carminic acid on embryonic tissue cell cultures

The biological reaction to carmine and carminic acid at cellular level on 'in vitro' cultures was tested and significant variables were controlled. Results suggested that proliferation and metabolism of these cultures were not affected by the 2 stains.
