Summary An early pre-erythroid phase of erythropoiesis in cultures of dispersed cell suspensions prepared from primitive streak and head-fold chick blastodiscs was very sensitive to inhibition byRicinus communis agglutinin 120.This work was supported by grants from the Medical Research Council and National Research Council of Canada. Sympathetic influence on cerebral blood volume: Time-dependent effect of decentralization of the superior cervical ganglia in mice

Zusammenfassung Neue Befunde über die Neuronale Regulation der Hirndurchblutung. Durchschneidung der präganglionären Fasern des Hals-Sy. verursachen eine starke Initiale und eine etwas weniger ausgeprägte dauerzunahme der Durchblutung, was durch Unterbechung der innervation und Sensitivierung der Rezeptoren erklärt wird.

Monolayer cultures of normal adult rat adrenocortical cells: Steroidogenic responses to nucleotides,bacterial toxins and antimicrotubular agents

Summary Monolayer cultures of normal rat adrenocortical cells were treated with agents which stimulate steroidogenesis by Y-1 adrenal tumour cells. Choleragen was active, whereas cyclic nucleotides other than cyclic AMP, bacterial endotoxins and antimicrotubular agents were inactive.This work was supported by the Medical Research Council of Great Britain (grant No. 970/656/B). Occurrence of trichochromes in the urine of a melanoma patient

Inhibition and stimulation by 5-bromodeoxyuridine of erythropoiesis by chick blood island cells

Summary Erythropoiesis in liquid cultures of cell populations resolved from chick blastodiscs at the primitive streak and head-fold stages was totally inhibited by 5–8 g/ml of 5-bromodeoxyuridine. However, concentrations of 0.2 /ml of the nucleoside enhanced the number of erythroid cells formed.This work was supported by grants from the Medical Research Council and National Research Council of Canada. Depletion and repletion of noradrenaline in adrenergic nerves of the rat after decaborane treatment

Purification of plasminogen activator(s) from human seminal plasma

Effect of tranexamic acid on progress of experimental tumours and on DNA-synthesis

Summary The fibrinolytic inhibitor tranexamic acid affects certain experimental tumours; it prolongs survival (Lewis lung adenocarcinoma), decreases tumour weight (C3H breast carcinoma), and inhibits ascitic production (AH 130 rat hepatoma). However, it does not significantly influence DNA-synthesis in cell suspensions prepared from the same tumours.Acknowledgment. Sound-stimulated14C-glutamate release from the nucleus cochlearis

Summary The exogenous release of glutamate has been successfully studied in the cochlear nucleus of guinea-pigs after physiological sound stimulation of the ear (frequency 2000–20,000 Hz at 100 dBA).Acknowledgments. Release of fibrinolytic activators from human tumours cultured in vitro

Zusammenfassung Unter Verwendung einer Methode, welche die Bestimmung der fibrinolytischen Aktivität in Organkulturen erlaubt, wurden verschiedene orale Tumoren untersucht und dabei eine Korrelation zwischen der Waskularisierung der Tumoren und der entwickelten fibrinolytiscshen Aktivität festgestellt. Dagegen konnte kein Unterschied in der fibrinolytischen Aktivität von malignen und benignen Tumoren nachgewiesen werden.

Tyrosine hydroxylase activity in a transplantable islet cell tumour of golden hamster

Zusammenfassung In einem transplantierbaren Insel-zelltumor des Goldhamsters ist eine Tyrosinhydroxylase-Aktivität gefunden. Die hohe Aktivität der Enzyme zusammen mit einer starken Konzentration von Tyrosin deutet auf eine schnelle Synthese von Dopa in den Tumorzellen. Die Anwesenheit der Dopametaboliten DOPAC und HVA im Tumor wurde gezeigt.

Testosterone induced alterations in histamine metabolism in mice

Zusammenfassung Eine neuer Befund von hormonaler Beeinflussung des Histaminmetabolismus wird beschrieben und ein bisher nicht erkannter Metabolit wird chromatographisch nachgewiessen. Under dem Einfluss von Testosteron wird der Metabolit in grosser Menge in Urin der Maus ausgeschieden, während zugleich freies Histamin fast verschwindet, was dafür spricht, dass es sich um einen Histaminmetaboliten handelt, dessen chemische Struktur noch nicht festgestellt ist und von verschiedenen bekannten Histaminmetaboliten abgegrenzt werden kannte.

Tranexamic acid and fibrinolytic activity of the vessel wall

Zusammenfassung Ratten wurden mit hohen Dosen des Fibrinolyseinhibitors Tranexamsäure gefüttert. Die fibrinolytische Aktivität der grossen Herzgefässe und der Coronargefässe wurde histochemisch untersucht und mit einer Kontrollgruppe verglichen, wobei sich ergab, dass der Gehalt der Gefässwände an Fibrinolyseaktivatoren durch die Tranexamsäure nicht beeinflusst wurde.

Silver labeling of vascular basement membranes in streptozotocin diabetic mice

Summary Diabetic and nondiabetic control mice were given silver by ingestion. The glomerular basement membrane was labeled with silver granles and the labeling was marked in the diabetic animals. The retinal capillaries failed to incorporate silver both in normal and diabetic animals.Acknowledgments. The skilful technial assistance of Mr A. Ahlander is gratefully acknowledged. Some characteristics of urokinase released in organ culture of human kidney

Summary Plasminogen activator produced in organ culture of human kidney, i.e. in the histotypical arrangement of the tissue, was partially purified by affinity chromatography on para-aminobenzamidine coupled to Sepharose by a 6-carbon spacer, followed by gel chromatography on Sephadex G-100. The molecular weight of 2 active peaks were 27,000 and 52,000 daltons respectively. It was inhibited by DFP and by IgG antiurokinase.This study was supported by grant from the Swedish Medical Research Council (B77-17X-04523-03B).     

Isolation of 2-S-cysteinyldopa and 2,5-S,S-dicysteinyldopa from the urine of patients with melanoma

Summary Urine from patients with melanoma metastases is shown to contain, in addition to the previously described 5-S-cysteinyldopa (I), 2 closely related metabolites which have been isolated and identified as 2-S-cysteinyldopa (II) and 2, 5-S, S-dicysteinyldopa (III).Supported by grants from the Swedish Cancer Society (No. 626-B76-05XB and 869-B75-01P), the Swedish Medical Research Council (No. B76-04X-00056-12), and the Walter, Ellen and Lennart Hesselman Foundation for Scientific Research. Reserpine-induced depletion of gastric vitamin B12-binding proteins in the rat

Zusammenfassung Reserpin mobilisiert Histamin und den «Intrinsic factor» aus dem Rattenmagen. Eine trunkuläre Vagotomie hebt diese Wirkung von Reserpin auf. Reserpin hat keinen Effekt auf den «Intrinsic factor» des Magens von Maus, Hamster, Meerschweinchen und Kaninchen.

Effect of deglycyrrhizinized liquorice on gastric acid secretion,histidine decarboxylase activity and serum gastrin level in the rat

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass die Behandlung mit einem deglycyrrhizinierten Lakrizpräparat die basale Säurereaktion bei Ratten hemmt. Erhöhtes antrales pH führt zu vermehrter Freisetzung von antralem Gastrin mit bedeutender Aktivierung der Histidindecarboxylase in der Magenschleimhaut.
