Zusammenfassung Mit der Methodk nach Folin und Spackmann wurden die Freien Aminosäuren in der Hämolymphe vonEoperipatus weldoni festgestellt und in ihrer Gesamtkonzentration mit den Aminosären der Myriapoden und primitiven hemimetabolischen Insekten vergleichbar gefunden.

Relation between resistance to insecticides and chemical composition of fat in the cotton leafworm larvae (Spodoptera littoralis Boisd.)

Zusammenfassung Im Körperfett eines insektizidsensitiven und eines carbaryl-resistenten Stammes vonSpodoptera littoralis wird wenig Insektizid gespeichert und die Konzentration der Palmitinsäure ist höher als jene der Linolensäure. Für DOT- und methylparathionresistente Stämme gilt das Gegenteil. Es scheint, dass eine hohe Linolsäurekonzentration Voraussetzung für eine starke Einlagerung von Insektiziden in das Fett ist.     

Influence of posttreatment temperature on the toxicity of pyrethroid insecticides to susceptible and resistant larvae of the Egyptian cotton leafworm,Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.)

Summary The organophosphorus insecticides chlorpyrifos, leptophos, and phosfolan and the carbamate methomyl was found to be more toxic to larvae of a susceptible strain ofSpodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) when the posttreatment temperature was increased from 20 to 35°C. In contrast, the pyrethroids permethrin, fenvalerate, deltamethrin, cypermethrin, and flucythrinate were more toxic at 20°C than at 35°C. This effect was more pronounced in the pyrethroid-resistant strains. Evidently, resistance levels were reduced at low temperature. However, the application of piperonyl butoxide or DEF in combinations with the tested pyrethroids on R-strains resulted in reducing the effect of temperature.

Zusammenfassung Das herbizide Thiolcarbamat Eptam® hemmt die Entwicklung der Weibchen der ägyptischen BaumwollraupeSpodoptera littoralis. Die schlüpfenden Weibchen sind relativ klein und legen keine oder nur sterile Eier.     

Changes in the free amino acids of the haemolymph of diapause and non-diapause pupae of the cotton bollworm,Heliothis armigera Hbn. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Summary The concentration of free amino acids in the haemolymph of non-diapausing and diapausing pupae ofHeliothis armigera was investigated. 20 amino acids were detected in the haemolymph of the studied stages. Asparagine, glutamine, cystine, ornithine, histidine and valine were the predominant free amino acids at all stages. The diapause resulted in increased levels of most of the amino acids.     

Cell proliferations inLymantria dispar L. larvae infected with the nuclear polyhedrosis virus

Résumé Dans l'hypoderme et l'épithelium trachéal de chenilles deLymantria dispar L. infectées expérimentalement avec le virus de la polyhédrose nucléaire, nous avons découvert des proliférations cellulaires de type néoplasmique. Dans les cellules des tissus de prolifération on observe une hypertrophie du noyau et du nucléole, la formation d'une strome virogénique et l'apparition d'inclusions virales — modifications caractéristiques produites par le virus de la polyhédrose nucléaire.     

Free amino acid composition of the intestinal contents,intestinal cells and hemolymph ofPhilosamia cynthia larvae

Summary Free amino acid composition of the intestinal contents, intestinal cells and hemolymph has been determined in larvae of the mothPhilosamia cynthia. From the hemolymph/lumen concentration ratio, an active transport could be inferred for neutral and basic amino acids. The values of cell/lumen and hemolymph/cell ratios suggested that the active step in the transport mechanism could be localized at the luminal pole of the enterocyte for neutral amino acids (except aromatic amino acids) and at the basolateral pole of the enterocyte for basic amino acids (except arginine).This work was supported by grants from Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and from Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, Rome. Free amino acids in the testes ofGryllotalpa africana beauvois (Orthoptera,Gryllidae)

Zusammenfassung Zweidimensionale Chromatographie der Hoden vonG. africana ergibt das Vorkommen von elf Aminosäuren: Leucin (Isoleucin), Valin, Prolin, Tyrosin, Alanin, Glycin, Serin, Glutaminsäure und Asparaginsäure. Höchste Konzentration fand sich bei Prolin und Asparaginsäure, niedrigste bei Serin und Tyrosin.

Résumé La réaction entre l'alginate de soude et les ions de calcium a été utilisée dans la préparation à froid d'un gel nutritif servant à l'élevage artificiel deSpodoptera littoralis (Boisduval).     

Free amino acids in the adult citrus brown mite,Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein)

Summary Amino acids contained in extracts of adultEutetranychus orientalis were separated and determined quantitatively by 2-dimensional paper chromatography. 14 amino acids were identified. Asparagine, ornithine, histidine, lysine, aspartic acid, serine and glycine were the major components of the free amino acid pool, comprising 83.94% of the total content.     

Free amino acids of the hemolymph ofAnacridum aegyptium L. (orthoptera)

Riassunto Sono stati determinati 14 aminoacidi liberi nell'emolinfa: di cssi acido glutamico, glicina e prolina rappresentano insieme il 50% e più del contenuto totale. Le ninfe verdi contengono meno glicina e acido aspartico e più treonina e fenilalanina in confronto alle ninfe brune. Gli individui adulti mostrano in contenuto relativo di aminoacidi diverso dalle ninfe e fra i due sessi. Somministrazione di triptofano a ninfe brune non ha dato variazioni negli aminoacidi liberi, non aumento dell'aminoacido stesso, né presenza di prodotti del suo metabolismo nel sangue.     

Characterization of free amino acids in the hemolymph ofAchaea janata L. larvae (Lep.Noctuidae)

Summary 19 free amino acids were separated and quantified from the hemolymph of 5th instar larvae of the mothAchaea janata. Proline, histidine, threonine/glutamine/asparagine, lysine, valine and serine were the predominant amino acids in the hemolymph. Changes in amino acid concentration are discussed in relation to metabolic and other physiological activities.Acknowledgment. Y.P. On the contribution of haemolymph to the salivary proteins of the red cotton bug,Dysdercus koenigii F. (Heteroptera,Pyrrhocoridae)

Summary Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of haemolymph and the salivary gland of adult maleDysdercus koenigii has been carried out. The presence of common bands in the electropherograms of the salivary gland and haemolymph shows the possible elaboration of haemolymph protein into the salivary glands as also evidenced by leucomethylene blue incorporation into the salivary gland lobules. Formation of asparagine and increase in the free amino acid content in virus infected leaves ofAbelmoschus esculentus

Zusammenfassung Papierchromatographische Analysen der freien Aminosäuren und Amide in gesunden und mit «yellow mosaic»-Virus infizierten Blättern vonAbelmoschus esculentus zeigen neben einer Zunahme von Leucin, Phenylalanin, Valin + Methionin und Asparaginsäure die Bildung einer neuen, ninhydrinpositiven Substanz und Asparagin in den infizierten Blättern. Es werden Anregungen für weitere Untersuchungen gemacht.
