Pharmacologic study of several alpha-adrenolytics

Six alpha-adrenoceptor blocking agents have been investigated in dogs and rats. 170 150 and 170 153 have been found the most potent of these agents. At low doses (0,1 microgram/kg) they reversed the pressor response to low doses of adrenaline (0,1 and 0,3 microgram/kg) and suppressed the response to high doses of adrenaline. They reduced the pressor response to noradrenaline. In addition, in dogs 170 150 increased the tachycardia caused by stimulation of the cardiac nerve. The compound prevented and reversed the inhibition caused by clonidine on the effects of cardiac nerve stimulation. 170 153 did not increase the tachycardia caused by cardiac nerve stimulation, but it prevented and reversed the inhibitory effects of clonidine on this stimulation. The results show that 170 150 and 170 153 are potent alpha-adrenoceptor blocking agents acting on both pre and post-synaptic alpha-adrenoceptors which could be interesting pharmacological tools.

Following oral or intravenous administration, a representative cognition activator drug, pramiracetam sulfate, is shown to have a pharmacologic therapeutic window at three different levels of study: learned behavior, gross EEG activity of the frontal cortex and hippocampus, and firing rate of single hippocampal neurons.

Pharmacologic properties of the toxins isolated from the sea anemone (Anemonia sulcata)]

We have shown that if toxin II isolated from Anemonia sulcata is mainly cardiotoxic on Rats it nevertheless displays neurotoxic effects. Furthermore it releases acetylcholine from isolated Guinea Pig ileum.

Zusammenfassung Aus der Fleischschale der Nüsse vonSapindus laurifolius wurden ausser Hederagenin 2 Triterpene isoliert. Das eine wurde als Oleanolsäure identifiziert, und das andere (Sapindic-Säure) erwies sich als ¹² 3,23-oxido-oleanen-28-säure.     

Influence of oestradiol on tissue respiration of the Indian garden lizard,Calotes versicolor

Summary Ovariectomy reduced the respiratory rates of liver and skeletal muscle homogenates of the Indian garden lizard,Calotes versicolor. Administration of oestradiol dipropionate elevated the rate of tissue respiration of ovariectomized animals. This finding lends support to the view that oestradiol, like testosterone, is able to stimulate the oxidative metabolism of this animal.Part of a thesis qualified for the award of Ph.D. degree of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. WirdPalamnaeus swammerdami mit Colchicin (0,2%) behandelt, so ziehen sich die Chromosomen in der Prämetaphase I zusammen.Buthus tamulus (aus Mysore) zeigt weitgehend variable Chromosomenzahl (20–28). Die Lage der Chromosomen in der Metaphase I und Anaphase I weist auf Monozentrie, Bizentrie und Holokinetie.     

If the cap fits,wear it: an overview of telomeric structures over evolution

Genome organization into linear chromosomes likely represents an important evolutionary innovation that has permitted the development of the sexual life cycle; this process has consequently advanced nuclear expansion and increased complexity of eukaryotic genomes. Chromosome linearity, however, poses a major challenge to the internal cellular machinery. The need to efficiently recognize and repair DNA double-strand breaks that occur as a consequence of DNA damage presents a constant threat to native chromosome ends known as telomeres. In this review, we present a comparative survey of various solutions to the end protection problem, maintaining an emphasis on DNA structure. This begins with telomeric structures derived from a subset of prokaryotes, mitochondria, and viruses, and will progress into the typical telomere structure exhibited by higher organisms containing TTAGG-like tandem sequences. We next examine non-canonical telomeres from Drosophila melanogaster, which comprise arrays of retrotransposons. Finally, we discuss telomeric structures in evolution and possible switches between canonical and non-canonical solutions to chromosome end protection.

Zusammenfassung Der Sitz der Aktivit?t alkalischer und saurer Phosphatase in den Hoden vonMeriones undSuncus war meist identisch, doch wurde beiSuncus auch festgestellt, dass da wo die hintere Kernkappe in verschiedenen Keimzellen auftrat, die Kernmembranen und der Nucleolus des Zellkerns der Zwischenzellen stark positiv reagierten.      

Metabolism of endosulfan in the Indian honey bee

Summary Metabolism of topical endosulfan in the Indian honey bee,Apis cerana indica F., was studied. The two endosulfan isomers were found to be interconvertible in bees. The products of metabolism were endosulfan sulfate, diol, ether, hydroxyether, lactone and two unknown compounds. Endosulfan diol, hydroxyether and lactone were found to be conjugated in excreta of the treated bees.Acknowledgment.
