Methoxyphenylethylamines as substrates for type A and type B monoamine oxidase

Summary 4-Methoxyphenylethylamine was found to be a specific substrate for type B monoamine oxidase (MAO) in rat brain mitochondria, whereas 3,4-dimethoxyphenylethylamine was common for both types of MAO. These results suggest that O-methylation in the para-position increases the preference of the substrate for type B MAO, while a methoxy-group in the meta-position contributes to the substance being a type A substrate.

Summary Synephrine (SP) was found to be a substrate for monoamine oxidase (MAO) in rat brain mitochondria, showing the K_m and V_max values of 250 M and 32.6 nmoles/mg of protein/30 min respectively. The inhibition studies showed that the SP oxidation was carried out by both type A and type B MAO and a major part of the activity was due to type A MAO.

An apocynaceae-alkaloid of a novel type

Zusammenfassung Bei thermischer oder solvolytischer Decarbonylierung eines neuen Alkaloids ausMelodinus scandens Forst. entsteht eine Verbindung II, die ihrerseits in die Derivate III–VI umgewandelt werden kann. Auf Grund eingehender NMR- und MS-Untersuchungen können für die Verbindungen II–VII die angegebenen Strukturen vorgeschlagen werden. Alkaloide mit dem Skelett der Verbindung II entstehen biosynthetisch wahrscheinlich aus Alkaloiden des Aspidospermin-Typs durch Oxidation an C-2 und nachfolgende Umlagerung.     

Arthus type inflammation with rat immunoglobulins

Résumé Étude comparative des proprietés biologiques des anticorps IgM, IgG₁ et IgG₂ du rat. Les résultats montrent que le pouvoir agglutinant et lytique des anticorps IgM est respectivement 37 et 100 fois supérieur à celui des deux classes d'anticorps IgG. Par contre, en ce qui concerne le phénomène d'Arthus, les anticorps IgM sont moins actifs que les anticorps IgG, si les rapports sont exprimés en poids. Si l'on calcule les rapports par nombre de molécules, les anticorps IgM sont aussi, dans ce cas, plus actifs que les IgG.

A new type of non-kaliuretic diuretic compound

Zusammenfassung Die Synthese von 1-(Pyrrolidino)-3,5-diphenyl-4-(-pyridyl)-cyclohexan, Su-15049, und dessen wasserlöslichen Citrats werden beschrieben. Diese Verbindungen besitzen starke diuretische und natriuretische Eigenschaften; sie sind aber nicht kaliuretisch wirksam.     

Missense mutations resulting in type 1 lissencephaly

Proper human brain formation is dependent upon the integrated activity of multiple genes. Malfunctioning of key proteins results in brain developmental abnormalities. Mutation(s) in the LIS1 gene or the X-linked gene doublecortin (DCX) results in a spectrum of disorders including lissencephaly, or smooth brain, and subcortical band heterotopia, or doublecortex. Vermipodia — a new type of cell process

Summary A new kind of cell process is described in leukemic cells in two cases of histiocytic malignancies. They were evident both with light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. As they have a tubular, worm like appearance, the name vermipodia has been given to them.     

New non-photodynamic (type B) phototoxic molecules

Summary This report completes the examination of the 3 butadiynes substituted with phenyl and thienyl groups, and their related thiophene molecules. With the exception of 2,5-diphenylthiophene, they are all non-photodynamic (type B) phototoxic compounds.Acknowledgments.
