Zusammenfassung (1) Es wurde bei den SeeigelartenParacentrotus ,Arbacia undSphaerechinus sowie den drei BastardenPar ×Arb ,Arb ×Par undPar ×Sphaer für eine Reihe von Entwicklungsstadien die Anzahl der Kerne pro Keim bestimmt (Tabelle). Der morphogenetischen Hemmung der Bastarde entsprechen herabgesetzte Kernzahlen und parallel eine Herabsetzung der DNS-Synthese. (2) Es wurde bei den genannten reinen Arten und den Bastarden derUmsatz der RNS bestimmt. Er geht in allen Fällen, bei den reinen Arten wie bei den Bastarden, der DNS- Synthese parallel.

Inhibition of reduction in female mouse meiosis

Zusammenfassung Es wurde der Hemmungseffekt von Colcemid und Vincristin auf die Méiose bei Mäuseeiern in vitro und in vivo untersucht. Die in vitro wirksame minimale Konzentration für Vincristin wurde bei 4×10^–7 g/ml, für Colcemid bei 4×10^–3 g/ml gefunden. Die in vivo wirksame Minimaldosis von Vincristin war 1 g/g. Körpergewicht, von Colcemid 10 g/g Körpergewicht.

Summary The relation between the homecoming-speed of carrier-pigeons and the influence of sexhormones and prolaktin is reported.It is further examined whether the influence of prolaktin (breeding on 10–15 days old eggs) or psychological factors (feeding of young individuals of more than 15 days) are the factors, accelerating the homecoming-speed. Best results are obtained by combining breeding 1–6 days old eggs and feeding young pigeons of 2–3 weeks.

Effect of dipyridamole on glomerular mesangial cell ecto-5′-nucleotidase expression

Although dipyridamole has been extensively studied as an anti-aggregating agent, its mechanism of action has not been elucidated. Cultured mesangial cells were treated with dipyridamole 1–100 M from 6–72 h. Ecto-5-nucleotidase activity approximately doubled (from 115±11 to 226±14 nmol/min/mg) after treatment with 100 M dipyridamole for 72 h. This effect was concentration- and time-dependent. Cycloheximide, an inhibitor of protein synthesis, did not alter basal 5-nucleotidase activity. However, it prevented stimulation by 5 M dipyridamole. Adenosine availability at the receptor sites was increased by dipyridamole and S-(p-nitrobenzyl)-6-thioinosine (NBTI), which inhibit adenosine uptake into the cell. Addition of dipyridamole or NBTI to the adenosine-treated mesagial cells produced an additive increase in ecto-5-nucleotidase activity. Dipyridamole, through its effect on extracellular adenosine and ecto-5-nucleotidase, may have an influence upon regulation of the glomerular microcirculation.     

Molecular mechanism on the energy transfer and conversion in the photosynthetic system

Zusammenfassung Auf molekularer Basis wird die Energieübertragung und die Energieumsetzung in einem primären photosynthetischen System untersucht. Die Energieübertragung in den Pigmenten und im Chlorophyll-A wird mit der Energieübergangswahrscheinlichkeit und dem Diffusionsmodell eines intramolekularen «Exitons» mit Dipol-Dipol-Wechselwirkung behandelt. Bei einer Chlorophyllkonzentration von 0.1M/1 wird die Diffusionskonstante des «Exitons»D _e 1.1 × 10^–3 cm²/sec und seine Diffusionslängel _e 250 Å. Als Energieumsetzung wird die Anregung eines – -Tripletts des Chlorophyll-A mit Hilfe eines paramagnetischen Metallenzyms vorgeschlagen und diskutiert.

Unique occurrence of fenchol in the animal kingdom

Summary (–)--Fenchol, a compound occurring in plants but not heretofore reported to occur in an animal product, was isolated from volatiles released by adult male Mediterranean fruit flies,Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann, with the male's previously identified sex pheromones. The identification of εN-(β-aspartyl)-l-lysine in native and heated keratin

Zusammenfassung Chromatographisch (Ionenaustausch, Papierchromatographie, Dünnschichtchromatographie und Hochspannungselektrophorese) wird nach enzymatischer Hydrolyse von nativem und denaturiertem Wolle-Keratin (-Glutamyl)-lysin und (-Aspartyl)-lysin identifiziert und so die in Proteinen postulierte anomale Peptidverknüpfung nachgewiesen.

Lack of tolerance development to tumor necrosis factor α inside the central nervous system

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) was repeatedly microinfused into the lateral ventricle of guinea pig brains at a dose of 200 ng, 4 times within 150 min, at intervals of 3 days. In comparison to guinea pigs infused with solvent according to the same time schedule, the animals responded to TNF with pronounced fevers. The quantity of the fever response was the same after each of the 4 microinfusions of TNF. Three days after the last infusion of TNF or solvent all animals received an intramuscular injection of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The fever in response to LPS was the same in both groups. Thus, the reported development of tolerance to repeated systemic administration of TNF^1–3 does not develop inside the blood-brain barrier. Also, the febrile response to LPS is not influenced by repeated central pre-treatment with TNF, whereas repeated peripheral treatment does have an effect.     

Suppression of delayed type hypersensitivity of mice by lead

Summary Application of lead suppressed the delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) of mice induced by sheep red blood cells (SRBC). Inhibition of elicitation of DTH in primary as well as in secondary response was correlated with the concentration of lead in the blood of the mice.Acknowledgments. Zusammenfassung Die Vorbehandlung mit Thenalidin (Sandosten) führt zur Verminderung der mit Serotonin hervorgerufenen hämorrhagischen Erosionen im Magen der Ratten. Thenalidin zeigt einen Effekt auf das mit Reserpin bewirkte Magengeschwür und verstärkt die Vormagengeschwürbildung bei den Ratten.
