Zusammenfassung Der radioaktive indifferente Luftbestandteil Krypton⁸⁵ (in Ringer-Flüssigkeit) wird in die Arteria carotis communis injiziert und die Radioaktivität über der freigelegten Gehirnoberfläche verfolgt. Die Methode ergibt reproduzierbare quantitativecorticale Perfusionswerte und eignet sich auch für andere Gewebe.     

Surface model of the collagen fibril as determined by two-stage plastic replica

Summary Two-stage plastic replicas of fresh and vacuum dried rat tail collagen were examined by electron microscopy. Microphotometer tracings made from the replica micrographs showed that the surface of the collagen has a periodic undulating topography which includes an approximately 20–40 Å deep depression located within the major band distance.This work was supported by the Hendricks Research Fund No. 93252 and the V. The importance of sulfur and iron in the retina as determined by paramagnetic resonance studies

Zusammenfassung Eine neue Theorie über Photorezeption wird vorgeschlagen. Mittels EPR-Untersuchungen wird gezeigt, dass die in der Retina vorkommenden Elemente Schwefel und Eisen eine wichtige Rolle im Photorezeptionsprozess spielen. Für die Nervenerregung scheinen Ladungsleitungen und nicht intermolekulare Energieleitungen verantwortlich zu sein.     

Inhibition of reserpine-induced PGO waves in the cat by ergot derivatives

Summary The number of reserpine-induced PGO waves in the cat is decreased by administration of ergot derivatives. The inhibition is dose-dependent and the various ergot derivatives show differing potencies. The action of the ergot derivatives may result from stimulation of central serotonin receptors. In addition, possible involvement of dopaminergic systems is discussed.

Zusammenfassung Blinde Krallenfrösche reagieren auch dann auf konzentrische Oberflächenwellen, wenn das gesamte Seitenliniensystem zerstört wird. Weitere Ausschaltversuche zeigen, dass der Reiz (Eintauchen eines Stabes) sehr wahrscheinlich über das Labyrinth perzipiert wird. Ob die Oberflächenwelle selbst oder (und) das Geräusch beim Eintauchen des Stabes wahrgenommen wird, ist noch nicht sicher entschieden.

Reaction patterns of dark- and light-adaptedHydra to light stimuli

Zusammenfassung Die Kontraktionsintensität bleibt auch dann unverändert, wenn die Polypen vonHydra attenuata dem Dunkel-Hell-Wechsel (je 2 min) während 3 h ausgesetzt werden. Dunkeladaptierte Hydren reagieren auf Lichtreize auffallend empfindlicher als bei 3000 Lux helladaptierte Tiere.

HLA-G protein processing and transport to the cell surface

Data are presented on the intracellular trafficking of HLA-G protein, taking the unique features of this non-classical molecule into consideration: the existence of seven isoforms resulting from alternative splicing (HLA-G1 to G7), and reduced tail length compared with HLA class I antigens. Biochemical studies and analysis of viral strategies for escaping the host immune system led to the demonstration that (i) both the membrane-bound (HLA-G1) and the soluble (HLA-G5) forms of the molecule require peptide association for cell surface expression, using TAP-dependent or TAP-independent pathways; (ii) peptide loading onto the HLA-G protein plays a critical role in controlling the quality of the molecule reaching the cell surface; (iii) surface expression of truncated HLA-G molecules is possible, and (iv) HLA-G expression may be restricted to soluble HLA-G5. These data reveal that HLA-G presents specific cell trafficking pathways and strongly support the contention that the primary function of HLA-G is as of an inhibitor ligand for immune-competent cells. ARIMA model building and the time series analysis approach to forecasting

This paper reviews the approach to forecasting based on the construction of ARIMA time series models. Recent developments in this area are surveyed, and the approach is related to other forecasting methodologies.
