Relevance of chlorine-substituent for the antifungal activity of syringomycin and syringotoxin,metabolites of the phytopathogenic bacteriumPseudomonas syringae pv.syringae

Structural analogues of syringomycin and syringotoxin were produced by fermentation, characterized by FAB-MS and amino acid analysis and compared to the parent compounds in the antibiosis test againstRhodotorula pilimanae. The C-terminal residue was shown to be important for the activity.     

Natural killer-like activity in human cultured lymphoid cells propagated in the presence of interleukin-2: acquired resistance to prostaglandin E2- or dexamethasone-mediated suppression

Summary The cytotoxic activity of human peripheral blood lymphocytes against the natural killer-sensitive target K562 was suppressed both by prostaglandin E₂ and dexamethasone. On the other hand, cultured lymphoid cells propagated in the presence of interleukin-2 showed strong cytotoxic reactivity against K562 targets, and were resistant to prostaglandin E₂- or dexamethasone-mediated suppression.     

The ovicidal activity ofcis-dehydromatricaria ester: time-dependance of its enhancement by UV light

Summary Freshly laid eggs ofDrosophila melanogaster were treated with the polyacetylenic compoundcis-dehydromatricaria ester. The toxicity of the chemical was enhanced by treatments with long-wavelength ultraviolet light, and the maximum effect was observed when the UV irradiation was performed 4–5 h after the initial contact of the eggs with the chemical.We are grateful to Professor E.
