Zusammenfassung Bei ausgewachsenen Mäusen wurde nach i.p. Noradrenalininjektion die Steigerung der O₂-Aufnahme über den Grundumsatz in der Thermoneutralzone verfolgt. Nach einer Dosis von 1,6 mg/kg wurde ein bedeutender Unterschied (p < 0,05) der O₂-Aufnahmesteigerung zwischen der Gruppe normaler (155%) und normaler, auf 17°C adaptierter Mäuse (165%) und der Gruppe haarloser Mäuse (195%) festgestellt.     

Demonstration of cross reaction between anti-macrophage antibodies and mononuclear mesodermal cells

Summary An anti-macrophage antiserum to rat peritoneal macrophages was prepared in rabbits. The antibodies produced showed cross reaction with perivascular adventitial macrophages, with macrophages in thymus and spleen, and with brain microgial cells.Acknowledgments. Comparative study of the effect of thymosin and supernatant from epithelial thymic cells on antibody production (author's transl)]

A thymic extract (TE) was prepared from supernatant of mice thymic epithelial cultures according to the purification of thymosin. TE and thymosin stimulated, in vitro, the immune response of mouse against deep red blood cells.

Résumé La production d'anticorps antiprotéiques a été étudiée comparativement chez des rats de 3 mois et de 22 mois, par la méthode d'hémagglutination passive. Les résultats montrent et précisent la différence de comportement immunologique entre animaux jeunes et animaux âgés.

Experimental observations on the participation of macrophages in the mechanism of antibody production

Riassunto Gli autori hanno iniettato nella zampa di conigli riceventi materiale macrofagico di essudato peritoneale di conigli donatori immunizzati conSalmonellae per via intraperitoneale; hanno poi osservato agglutinazionein vitro fra cellule di linfonodo popliteo degli animali riceventi, eSalmonallae del ceppo usato per l'immunizzazione. Gli autori ritengono quindi probabile che i macrofagi abbiano la capacità di trasferire stimoli antigenici.

The chemokinetic effect of serum albumin

Summary Experiments performed by means of time lapse cinematography or the filter technique show that human serum albumin has marked chemokinetic effects on neutrophil cultured in Gey's solution. The average speed of the cells, as well as the proportion of neutrophils showing locomotion, is increased. Enhanced locomotion correlates with decreased attachment to the substratum as determined by morphological and functional criteria.We thank Mrs R. Graf and Miss M. Schuster for technical assistance. Alteration of humoral antibody production following in vivo administration of phytohemagglutinin

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass Phythämagglutinin (PHA) die Antikörperbildung gegenBrucella abortus bei der Maus merklich herabsetzt, aber nur dann, wenn PHA vor dem Antigenstimulus verabreicht wird und die immunologische Zweitreaktion (secondary response) unverändert bleibt.

Persistent inverse maternal effect on corticosterone production in vitro

Summary Adrenal cells from C57BL/Tb mice produced more steroid than those from DBA/2J mice. Reciprocal differences between both backcross and F1 hybrids showed a persistent maternal effect. Mothers with high output produce offspring with reduced hormone production when adult. Corticosterone output thus depends on maternal phenotype as well as on the genotype of the isolated cells.We thank Margaret MacKendrick for her help and the Medical Research Council for a research studentship for PRWW.
