On Promoting Study Initiative in English Language Teaching

English,as a kind of language,is not easy to learn and master well.The enthusiasm of learners plays an important role in English language learning.The aim of this paper is to encourage English teachers to pay more attention on promoting the initiative of students in English learning sufficiently.In this paper,firstly,the writer analyses the important factors affecting the students'initiative in English learning.Secondly,some advice on how to cultivate students' learning initiative is given.     

Cultivation of EFL Learners’Intercultural Competence

Nowadays, educators from home and abroad believe that learning a foreign language means learning a great deal of the foreign civilization and culture. And the utmost goal of language teaching is to cultivate EFL learners’communicative competence, but not merely the linguistic knowledge. Thus, teaching a foreign language is more than teaching new words, expressions and grammar rules, but should also incorporate the target culture elements into language knowledge. In order to improve EFL learners’English proficiency, teachers must make efforts to cultivate EFL learners’intercultural competence and promote their sensibility and adaptability to the differences between Chinese culture and the Western culture. Only by doing so, can EFL learners communicate with native speakers appropriately and smoothly. This paper proposes some effective teaching techniques and methods that can be applied in English classroom to cultivate Chinese EFL learners’intercultural competence.     

The Teacher's Role and Teaching Procedures in the Teaching of Oral English

English teachers in China are aware that what kind of English teaching method should be employed to improve student＇s linguistic acquisition and that communicative competence becomes more and more important. In English teaching, teachers always make it possible for students to be more often in contacts with the English language, thus creating an atmosphere of learning English language. Help students to jump over the gap between only reading English loudly and speaking English fluently. Here I will show the importance of the teachers＇ role in English teaching and their applies in oral English teaching.

In order to improve students＇reading ability and to cultivate their interests to English,teachers should help their students acquire more western culture background.This article mainly talks about something about vampire culture which is really fascinating to the teenagers.The vampire legend is a kind of distinctive culture rooting in European countries.It has profound historical and cultural connotation,and its development is closely related to religion and culture.People in different times have different beliefs on vampires.This study aims at making more students understand vampire culture,arousing their interest on western culture,and at last,learning to take the right attitude towards people of lower-level in society.     

The Application of CALL in Higher Vocational College

In recent years,with the rapid development of the informational,the digital and audio-visual technology,multimedia technology and its application have also entered a new development era in people’s life,especially in the academic field.In China,Computer Assisted Language Learning(CALL) has a far-reaching influence on the reforming and modernization of the education,and has brought about a new revolution in foreign language teaching and learning.The study,by means of a self-designed questionnaire,conducted a survey of the application of CALL with 120 English majors and 30 English teachers in a certain higher vocational college which the author works in.The study hopes that,with the help of the technological advantages of CALL and the rich on-line information resources via computers,the students’ study could be carried out in a more effective and convenient way.The results of statistical analysis revealed that,the majority of the students and teachers hold a positive attitude toward CALL application in language teaching and learning,though they have reported some weaknesses of CALL.According to the analysis,the paper attempts to discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of multimedia technology in English teaching and suggests several proposals to better the use of CALL.     

The Illocutionary Language Communicating Model and Its Application In College English Teaching

This essay aims at making a research on the college students’English learning development.Some useful and efficient methods and practice are introduced,to make teaching more effective and to help students learn better on the basis of the illocutionary language communicating model.Successful learning should be learner-centered and in real-life communication.It should be realized by both the instructors and learners.In this essay,according to instructor’s testing standard data,with listening,reading,translating learning guidance included,this illocutionary model and its application in college English teaching is discussed.

Six Tentative Approaches to Culture Acquisition in English Learning in China

EFL teachers in China have come to realize that EFL teaching does not stop at the students’ linguistic competence, but should go on to develop their communicative competence. To achieve this,it is essential for both teachers and students to be conscious of the sociolinguistic functions of languages and take measures to increase their cultural awareness. Therefore, this article suggests some tentative approaches to culture acquisition in English learning,in the hope of increasing efficiency of English learning for the Chinese students.

The software industry is asking universities and colleges to cultivate more software engineers who can write quality programs.A peer code review process is an ideal approach to maximize the learning outcome of students in programming.In this paper,the process in our previous publication was improved.The found problems were analyzed which will take as the basis of the future research on quality assurance.Finally,a set of solutions based on computer science were proposed to further improve the whole review process.     

Using Agents in Web-Based Constructivist Collaborative Learning System

Web-based learning systems are one of the most interesting topics in the area of the application of computers to education. Collaborative learning, as an important principle in constructivist learning theory, is an important instruction mode for open and distance learning systems. Through collaborative learning, students can greatly improve their creativity, exploration capability, and social cooperation. This paper used an agent-based coordination mechanism to respond to the requirements of an efficient and motivating learning process. This coordination mechanism is based on a Web-based constructivist collaborative learning system, in which students can learn in groups and interact with each other by several kinds of communication modes to achieve their learning objectives efficiently and actively. In this learning system, artificial agents represent an active part in the collaborative learning process; they can partially replace human instructors during the multi-mode interaction of the students.     

Making Non-English Majors "on the Move"

Researches have proved that adults can develop language acquisition device, too. Transferring from learning to acquisition depends on the interplay of external and internal factors both from the instructor and the students. This paper describes the attempt to help students develop from language learning to language acquisition, from the points of pre-class, while-class, and after-class activities.     

The Problems in English Testing System

Testing is a means of enabling quality of teachers’ teaching and acquisition of students’ language learning. Considering the problems existing in the current English education and testing system, teachers should try to improve the validity and reliability of English language testing,which should cover 5 skills: the competence of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation.     

How to Stimulate College Students' English Learning Motivation

Motivation to language learning is a complex set of variables including effort, desire to achieve goals, as well as attitudes toward the learning of the language. Thus, students will become major conductors, make full use of their potentials and enhance their study results.     

Use of Knowledge of Word Formation in English Vocabulary Teaching

The general and traditional ways to learn English words are too boring and unsystematic, which is a weak point in students’English learning. The author has conducted a survey among freshmen, sophomores, juniors to find out the points,combined the results of the survey with features of memory and storage system, put forward word formation. This essay also presents the advantages of word formation in English vocabulary teaching and learning and introduces five main categories of word formation.     

Improving the Quality of English Intensive Reading for Students of Agricultural Colleges

The traditional English teaching for non—English majors,especially in Intensive Read-ing class,is teacher—centered.As a result,the students have to learn English passively and mostof them are less interested in it.Therefore,it has become necessary to change the traditionalmethod and improve the quality of teaching.In this article some ways are introduced and dis-cussed,which include:making the students clear about the purpose of learning and teaching,de-signing teaching content elaborately,arranging teaching activities carefully,encouraging the stu-dents to be the main role of learning and teaching,teaching the students ways of learning,etc.     

Gender Difference in Learning Style

This article mainly focused on learning styles and its relative influence on language learning proficiency,as well as gender difference in terms of learning style.Through a literature review,I found many learning style models.Also,there were many variations among the students in use of these models.The acquaintances of learning style may benefit students and language instructors to adapt teaching and learning to individual differences among students.This can enhance education effectiveness.     

A Brief Survey Study of English Grammar Teaching Issues and Strategies at Medical College

In this paper the author wants to do two things. Firstly,the author wants to look back at the grammar teaching issues that in her English class——teaching and the reason why the students always do not study the English grammar well.
