Distribution of polyamine oxidase activity in rat tissues and subcellular fractions

The activity of polyamine oxidase (PAO) in rat tissues, and its subcellular distribution, were assayed using a simple polarographic method. The highest PAO activity was measured in the liver and the lowest in the skeletal muscle. In liver, kidney and uterus the highest specific PAO activity was found in the light mitochondrial fraction. PAO was not found in the microsomal fraction except in the kidney.

A very simple fluorometric assay for polyamine oxidase (PAO) in tissues, with N1-monoacetylspermine as substrate, is described. The PAO was present in all human organs tested; it was highest in the liver, followed by the testis, kidney, spleen and small intestine.

Distribution of tetracycline-73H in subcellular components of normal and tumor tissues of the albino rat

Zusammenfassung Die Verteilung von Tritium-markiertem Tetracyclin (TTC) in subcellulären Fraktionen von normalem und neoplastischem Gewebe wurde untersucht. Der grösste Teil des injizierten TTC wurde in der Mikrosomen-Fraktion (49000g) gefunden. Tumorgewebe wenige Tage nach Transplantation nahm mehr TTC als irgendein anderes der untersuchten Gewebe auf.

Monoamine oxidase activity in tissues of spontaneously hypertensive rats

Summary Monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity was assayed both in central and peripheral blood vessels of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and age-matched normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKR). The activity of MAO in the brain and peripheral vasculature was essentially the same in both SHR and WKR. It can therefore be concluded that central and peripheral vascular MAO activity is not altered in the genetically hypertensive animals.     

Distribution of monoamine oxidase in hippocampal region of the rat

The distribution and development of type A and type B monoamine oxidase (MAO) activities in the hippocampal region of the rat was investigated with biochemical microdetermination. Type A MAO is absolutely dominant and unevenly distributed in the hippocampus. The development of type A MAO in the hippocampus seems to be delayed and reachs adult levels by the 30th day after birth.

Histochemical study of many organs of male and female adult Wistar rats of the same age showed no difference in fibrinolytic activity (plasminogen activator activity) between the sexes.

Zusammenfassung Der Cholesteringehalt der subzellulären Komponenten von Lebergewebe verschiedener Tierarten wurde untersucht. Die subzellulären Fraktionen bestanden hauptsächlich aus Mitochondrien und waren relativ frei von Mikrosomen.
