Cellularity and composition of epididymal adipose tissue from cold-acclimatized rats.

Cold acclimatization induces morphological and compositional modifications of rat epididymal adipose tissue: a decrease in fat cell size, an increase of fat cell number per g of tissue, but no significant increase in total fat cell number in the tissue; finally, an increase in protein content and a decrease in triglyceride content.

采用天宫一号轨道大气环境探测器的在轨探测数据,分析了2012年3月和10月地磁扰动期间的热层大气成分数据,对磁暴期间N2异常增变的涨幅、时间、空间特性,低纬地区N2异常增变特点,以及冬夏半球N2异常增变的差异进行探讨,探讨认为:N2数密度的异常增变与地磁扰动及其扰动程度密切相关,增变现象通常出现在夏半球高纬区域上空,磁扰期间所出现的N2数密度异常增变现象与地磁扰动对热层大气加热机理紧密相关.

Morphological effects of serotonin and ketanserin on embryonic chick skin in vitro

Cell and organotypical cultures are used to study the direct effect of serotonin and of ketanserin, a serotonin antagonist, on dermal and epidermal cells of embryonic chick skin. Ketanserin stimulates the increase in cell number and inhibits the differentiation, whereas serotonin stimulates differentiation and inhibits the increase in cell number.

Effects in man of a total adrenal cortical extract on delayed immunity and lymphocyte sub-populations]

After a 10 day treatment with total adreno-cortical extract, administered to 11 subjects, the following results were obtained: increase of delayed cutaneous responses to various antigens, increase in the number of null lymphocytes, decrease in the number of B lymphocytes. These changes did not occur in 16 control patients who were not treated.     

Mitotic activity of adrenal medullary cells in the mouse at different ages and following unilateral adrenalectomy.

The number of mitoses as well as the number of the cells of the adrenal medulla was determined in the mouse at various ages and after unilateral adrenalectomy. It was found that a decrease in the mitoses and an increase in the cell number occurs up to 4 months. In 12-month-old rats, mitoses, although rare, are still present. No changes in the mitosis and cell number was observed after unilateral adrenalectomy.

Augmentation du nombre et de la taille des cellules adipeuses dans l'obésité nutritionnelle de la Souris

Summary Swiss mice became obese after administration of two 41% fat diets given, throughout life, ad libitum. The parametrial fat weights show a 6-fold increase in obese mice. The differences were accounted for in part by the adipose cell size enlargement and particularly by a 2,5-fold increase in their number.     

Epidermal growth factor stimulates proliferation of rat hepatoma cells producing alpha-fetoprotein.

Epidermal growth factor stimulated both [3H]thymidine uptake and proliferation of rat AH66 hepatoma cells. However, the increase in cell number was not accompanied by a proportional increase in the levels of alpha-fetoprotein of the culture media. The effects of EGF on the cell proliferation were antagonized by N6,O2'-dibutyryl cAMP.     

Microsphere measurement of myocardial capillary bed in hypoxic rats

Summary Rats exposed to hypobaric hypoxia for 24 h showed a significant increase in the number of perfused capillaries and in the number of radioactive microspheres trapped in the coronary circulation.     

Cell size and cell division of the anterior pituitary: time course in the growing rat

Pituitary cells increase their numbers more than 3-fold during the 1st 10 days of life while maintaining the same cell size ratios. In the 25-day-old animal, the rate of cell division slows and there is a slight increase in the number of large cells. An increase in adult weight is attributed to hyperplasia and a shift to a population of larger cells.     

Skeletal muscle capillary densities during reactive hyperemia

Reactive hyperemia was induced in hindlimbs of rats by occlusion of the femoral artery. Using fluorescein dye as a peripheral vascular marker, we observed that there was an increase in the number of flowing capillaries supplying the muscle fibres following release of the occlusion. The results indicate that the number of flowing capillaries is not dependent on the duration of occlusion (2-10 min).     

Translocation of hepatic cytosol androgen receptor to the nucleus in vivo in male rats

Summary Testosterone, which was injected s.c. into adult male rats castrated 15 h prior to the injection, decreased the number of androgen-specific binding sites in the cytosol at 30 min. Coincidentally, a substantial increase was observed in the nucleus. The decreased number of the sites in the cytosol was restored to the initial level at 60 min; on the contrary, a decrease was observed in the nucleus.     

Ovarian HCG-binding in hemicastrated immature female rats

Summary Hemigonadectomy in 9-day-old female rats results in a drastic increase in the weight and the number of HCG-binding sites of the remaining ovary during further development. However, on a per mg basis of ovarian weight, the number of HCG-receptors is identical in hemicastrated and control rats.

Effect of bilateral adrenalectomy and parenteral betamethasone on gastric mucosal mast cell population in albino rats.

The histamine-laden mast cells of gastric mucosa in albino rats are shown to degranulate on administration of Betamethasone, but they increase in number in adrenalectomized rats. It is concluded that Betamethasone, and also adrenal glucocorticoids increase gastric secretion by liberating histamine from mast cells and histamine in turn acts on the gastric glands.     

Cellular control of the tick-borne virus antigen production in persistently infected cell culture

Summary The influence of inhibition or stimulation of cellular DNA synthesis on tick-borne virus antigen production in persistently infected cell culture was studied. Either mitomycin C or cytosine-arabinoside caused cessation of antigen-containing cell number increase. Stimulation of cellular DNA synthesis by growth medium change increased the level of antigen-containing cells. When HEp-2-Sof culture was synchronized, a correlation was observed between the entrance of cells into DNA synthesis phase and the increase of proportion of antigen-containing cells.     

Surface morphological study of ehrlich ascites tumor cells exposed to microware irradiation and heat

Summary Microwave irradiation of EAT cells caused an increase in length and number of surface microvilli. The tumor cells tend to form large aggregates by means of extensive interdigitation of surface microvilli. On the other hand, heat hyperthermia caused a decrease of surface microvilli but an increase of surface blebs. Hence the surface morphology of EAT cells after in vitro exposure to microwave irradiation differs markedly from that after heat hyperthermia.Part of the results was presented a the Fifth meeting of the European Co-operative Hyperthermia Group, Essen, July 1983.
