The amino acid composition of rat bile

Summary The pattern of amino acids in the bile of rats differs from the pattern in the serum of these animals, since bile contains significantly greater amounts of acidic and sulphur-containing amino acids and glycine than serum, while the serum contained more basic amino acids than bile, indicating that secretion of amino acids into bile may involve specific transport processes.Acknowledgments. The amine and amino acid composition in the Retzius cells of the leechHirudo medicinalis

Zusammenfassung Die Mikrochromatographie von dansylierten Verbindungen wurde angewandt, um die Verteilung von Aminen und Aminosäuren in den Retzius-Zellen und der Bauchganglienkette des BlutegelsHirudo medicinalis zu untersuchen. Die Retzius-Zellen weisen sehr grosse Mengen an Serotonin, 5-HTP und Tryptophan auf. Ihr Gehalt an Asparagin- und Glutaminsäure ist ebenfalls, allerdings in geringerem Masse, grösser als im umgebenoen Nervengewebe, während Histidin, Prolin, Valin, Alanin, Glycin sowie Threonin, Glutamin und Asparagin in geringeren Mengen vorkommen.

The amino acid composition of histidine ammonia-lyase from Pseudomonas putida NCIB 10807 suggests that this enzyme may be different from the Pseudomonas testosteroni NCIB 10808 histidine ammonia-lyase, whose amino acid composition is known.     

Amino acid composition of crystallized human myoglobin and haemoglobin

Riassunto È stata eseguita l'analisi cromatografica su carta degli aminoacidi costituenti la molecola della mioglobina ed emoglobina umana cristallizzate. I due pigmenti differiscono dal punto di vista qualitativo per il contenuto in cistina ed isoleucina. Il primo aminoacido si trova nella emoglobina e non nella mioglobina, il secondo solo nella miglobina.Risultati analoghi sono stati ottenuti con mioglobina ed emoglobina di cavallo.     

Buffalo α S1-casein; its terminal residues and amino acid composition

Summary BuffaloaS₁-casein was treated with carboxypeptidase-A to determine the C-terminal amino acid residue, which was — leucine-tryptophan. The Sakaguchi reagent was used to confirm arginine as the N-terminal amino acid. The colored p-phenylazophenyl thiohydantions of tryptophan and arginine released from C- and N-terminals respectively were quantitatively estimated and from this molecular weights of buffaloaS₁ casein were calculated and found to be 26,300 and 26,100 respectively.Acknowledgment. Zusammenfassung N₂-fixierende Blaualgen wurden unter Bedingungen gezüchtet, die einerseits zu Heterocysten führten, andererseits jedoch diese Bildung verhinderten. Die Analyse der freien Aminosäuren ergab sowohl qualitative als auch quantitative Unterschiede, ohne dass ein eindeutiger Zusammenhang zwischen der Synthese einzelner Aminosäuren und dem Vorhandensein beziehungsweise der Abwesenheit von Heterocysten beobachtet werden konnte.

Zusammenfassung Die Aktivität der Aminopeptidasen im menschlichen Speichel von Ohrspeicheldrüsen wurde durch Fluoreszenzanalyse gemessen. Die Substratspezifität der Speichelaminopeptidasen war derjenigen der Serumenzyme ähnlich. Das Glycyl-Prolin -naphthylamidspaltende Enzym war jedoch im Speichel von Ohrspeicheldrüsen in relativ grösserer Menge vorhanden.

Free amino acid composition of the intestinal contents,intestinal cells and hemolymph ofPhilosamia cynthia larvae

Summary Free amino acid composition of the intestinal contents, intestinal cells and hemolymph has been determined in larvae of the mothPhilosamia cynthia. From the hemolymph/lumen concentration ratio, an active transport could be inferred for neutral and basic amino acids. The values of cell/lumen and hemolymph/cell ratios suggested that the active step in the transport mechanism could be localized at the luminal pole of the enterocyte for neutral amino acids (except aromatic amino acids) and at the basolateral pole of the enterocyte for basic amino acids (except arginine).This work was supported by grants from Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and from Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, Rome. The free amino acid contents and growth rates of polyploidSaccharomyces

Zusammenfassung In einer genetisch nachweisbar polyploiden Familie von Saccharomyces wurden der Gesamtgehalt an freien intrazellulären Aminosäuren und die Geschwindigkeit der Zellteilungen in Abhängigkeit der Ploidie bestimmt. Es liess sich zeigen, dass die Geschwindigkeit der Zellteilungen von der Ploidie nicht beeinflusst wird, während der Gesamtgehalt an freien intrazellulären Aminosäuren sich direkt proportional mit der Zunahme der Ploidie vergrössert (Verhältnis 1:1).
