Previous phylogenetic analysis based on combined mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences detected paraphyly of the Typhlogammaridae. To test this hypothesis a portion of large subunit (LSU-rDNA) gene sequences were obtained for typhlogammarid species from Caucasus. The Bayesian approach to LSU-rDNA sequences provided evidence for an independent origin of the Dinaric and Caucasus ‘typhlogammarid’ clades. A new family, Zenkevitchiidae fam. nov., is proposed to reconcile the observed phylogeny with the concept of monophyly. Using light microscopy, two mouthpart morphotypes of the Zenkevitchiidae fam. nov. species with quite different setae are identified. Taking into account these two morphotypes, a new classification is proposed – Adaugammarus revazi comb. nov., and Adaugammarus sandroruffoi comb. nov. Additionally, two new stygobiont zenkevitchiid amphipod species – Adaugammarus kasiani sp. nov. and Kruberia relicta sp. nov. – are described from Krubera Cave in Abkhazia. A distribution map and an identification key for the Zenkevitchiidae fam. nov. species of Transcaucasia are provided.

This work is the third publication on the new amphipod species collected from the Azores Triple junction zone by the cruises ATOS, DIVA 2, MARVEL, PICO and SEAHMA 1. Seven new species and a new genus are described belonging to six families, Eusiridae, Leucothoidae, Oedicerotidae, Phoxocephalidae, Pleustidae, and Podoceridae. Four new species of Stenothoidae were collected from the Azores Triple Junction zone during different French cruises on the Mid‐Atlantic Ridge. One of the species belongs to the genus Torometopa (T. saldanhae) and is the first record of this genus in the Atlantic Ocean. The three other species belong to the genus Stenothoe (S. divae, S. marvela, and S. menezgweni). It is not possible to determine from morphological and ecological characters whether these amphipod species are endemic to hydrothermal systems or are bathyal species that may be found away from vent sites.  相似文献

Hydrothermal fields on the Valu Fa Ridge at about 22°32′S, 176°43′W, were explored by the submersible Nautile during the French BIOLAU expedition in 1989. Pogonophorans were found during six of the 12 dives, at depths of about 1900 m. They were exposed to the influence of hydrothermal fluids but probably did not experience elevated temperatures. One new species of sediment-living perviate pogonophore was collected. Two new obturate pogonophores (vestimentiferans), one belonging to a new family, lived attached to hard substrata. There is a complete faunistic separation of the Lau Basin vestimentiferans from the eastern Pacific vent faunas. Families as well as genera are different, and the Lau species appear to have more in common with cold seep faunas.  相似文献

The gills of gammaridean amphipods consist of epipods on the coxa of peraeopods 2 to 6 and an exopod on the basis of peraeopod 7. Bilobed coxal gills are found on Gammaracanthus spp., lysianassoids and a few other species. Pleated and phyllobranchiate gills are found in some lysianassoids, dexaminoids and eusiroids. The trend in amphipods is towards a reduction in gill area through a loss of the outer lobe, simplification in gill structure, and a loss of individual gills. The reduction in gill area is associated with a decrease in body size.  相似文献

A new species of ischyrocerid amphipod, Ischyrocerus fractus sp. nov., is described from south-west Ireland. An examination of material from the Sars Collection at the Zoologisk Museum, Oslo, has confirmed that Ischyrocerus minutus Sars, previously placed as a synonym of Ischyrocerus anguipes Krøyer, is a valid species and is widespread in the British Isles, while I. anguipes is Arctic/boreal in distribution.  相似文献

Three new aorid amphipod species from Tasmanian kelp holdfasts are described: Microdeutopus varietensis sp. nov., Lembos clematis sp. nov. and L. verrucularum sp. nov. Strong sub-ocular regression of the head is a usual feature of the genus Microdeutopus and is shown by M. varietensis. It is not, however, typical of the other known Australian/NewZealand Microdeutopus species (M. haswelli and M. apopo). The Tasmanian Lembos species (L. chiltoni, L. clematis and L. verrucularum) are not known from New Zealand, where the genus is represented by L. pertinax, L. acherontis and L. hippocrenes. The Tasmanian Lembos species display the condition of the mandibular palp that typifies the genus, that is, article 3 longer than article 2 (cf. the New Zealand species which display the reverse, unusual, condition).  相似文献

The Atlantic and Mediterranean species of the genus Andaniexis Stebbing, 1906 (Amphipoda: Stegocephalidae) are reviewed, and three new species are described. The species Andaniexis abyssi (Boeck, 1871) which previously was considered a widely distributed species (from Baffin Bay to both Spitzbergen and the Skagerrak), is here divided into three species: Andaniexis abyssi s.str., Andaniexis gracilis n.sp. and Andaniexis lupus n.sp. These species, together with Andaniexis mimonectes Ruffo, 1975, all have allopatric distributions. This is especially evident in northern Norway, where A. abyssi has its northernmost limit: A. abyssi is found in Solbergfjorden (69°10′N), while Andaniexis lupus is found in the adjacent fjord Malangen (69°30′N, the southern limit of this species along the Norwegian coast). Andaniexis eilae n.sp. is described from Iceland. This species is not closely related to the other North Atlantic species of the same genus.  相似文献

Summary

Mussels up to 20·0 mm in length were examined for parasitism by Mytilicola intestinalis, and it was found that infection seldom occurs in mussels smaller than 10·0 mm.

Reasons for the low infection rate in young mussels have been discussed.

Two new species of eyeless amphipods are described from coastal Japan. Dulzura projecta sp. nov. (Hadziidae) was collected under large stones and in coarse sand from Osaka to Mie Prefectures. Dulzura projecta can be distinguished from the other Dulzura species by the distinct projection on article 1 of the male pleopod 3 inner ramus and the very long carpus of male gnathopod 1. Paraniphargus shiosai sp. nov. (Melitidae) was collected in coarse sand from Mie Prefecture, and can be differentiated from the other two species in the genus by the dorsal teeth on the pleonites, the smaller coxa 4 with shallow excavation and the shorter antenna 1 flagellum. Paraniphargus is reinstated as a distinct genus, following observation of the gnathopods, which revealed sexual monomorphism between males and females.  相似文献

The large and common Scandinavian amphipod Liljeborgia fissicornis (M. Sars) is split into four species: the deep-water L. caliginis sp. nov. and L. charybdis sp. nov., and the shallow-water L. fissicornis and L. ossiani sp. nov. The poorly known species L. polosi Barnard and Karaman, recorded from the deep Canadian Basin of the Arctic Ocean, is considered as belonging to the same group. All those northern species are completely devoid of eyes, while similar species from the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic continental shelf do have eyes. It is hypothesized that the group fissicornis, which is specific to cold waters, derives from ancestors living on the continental shelf of the Southern Ocean. These ancestors would have adapted to deep-sea environments, losing their eyes completely. Then they would have migrated northwards through the cold abyss, and reached the cold but shallow waters of the Arctic/sub-Arctic continental shelf, without redeveloping visual organs.  相似文献

The occurrence of the siphonostomatoid copepod, Sphaeronella leuckartii Salensky, in the marsupium of the amphipod Aora gracilis (Bate) was studied in Lough Hyne, south-west Ireland. A maximum of 12·9% of A. gracilis females were infected in any monthly sample derived from the sponges Halichondria panicea (Pallas) and Hymeniacidon perleve (Montagu), but up to 42·9% per month from plastic-mesh substrata.
