Summary In high doses synthetic vitamin A proved to have a leucopoetic effect on the experimental leucopenia of rats. In the treatment of the succinylsulfathiazol leucopenia vitamin A does not equal the effect of folic acid, in the treatment of the milk leucopenia however it is superior to the latter.  相似文献

Summary In the end-stage of progressive alloxan diabetes of the rabbit we have been able to overcome the acute pyruvic acidosis by the use of phosphorylated vitamin B1 (cocarboxylase) together with vitamin B2, while it is impossible to cure the endogen hyperpyruviæmia with simple vitamin B1. The superiority of the coferment over the vitamin, which is only effective at the beginning of the decompensation, implies the existence of a disturbance in the phosphorylation during the crisis of diabetic metabolism. We have been successful in preventing the inevitable death in coma of diabetic rabbits by doses of cocarboxylase + riboflavin, and we were able to keep them alive by continuous doses of insulin together with vitamin B1 and B2.

Summary Brush border sucrase and alkaline phosphatase activities are considerably enhanced in the intestine of ascorbic acid deficient guinea-pigs. Similar increase in the uptake of D-glucose and L-alanine also occurs in chronic vitamin C deficiency. The inclusion of vitamin C in the drinking water of BALB/c mice was without effect on the humoral antibody response to sheep red blood cells and bacterial lipopolysaccharide. However, there was a significantly increased cell-mediated immune response as determined by increased T-lymphocyte responses to concanavalin A. Summary In this work, we have studied the role of different active forms of vitamin A considered as adjuvant of the immune mechanism in the rat. We also pointed out the adjuvant effect of retinol and retinal in comparison with the other active components of that vitamin with the bovine -globulin which is not an immunogenic antigen in itself in the control rat. Despite the fact that vitamin A has no antigenecity, it still possess an extrinsic adjuvanticity in presence of bovine -globulin. The degree of the immune response is increased.

A 5 P. 100 level of protein from casein in a diet does not allow vitamin A to modify significantly induction of cytochrome P 450 on the Rat receiving or not receiving DDT. When the protein increases to a 15 p. 100 level, the induction is better providing vitamin A is to be given. If protein and vitamin A are necessary for cytochrom P 450 induction, an increase of protein level remains inefficient without vitamin A.  相似文献

The biochemical development of the fetal brain in relation to maternal vitamin A restriction was studied in rats. The vitamin A status of pregnant rats was varied by supplying low, medium and adequate amounts (6, 40, and 100 micrograms retinol/day/kg body weight, respectively) of vitamin A during pregnancy and suckling. The maternal vitamin A restriction caused an altered brain development in terms of tissue weight, DNA, RNA and protein levels, and biosynthesis of DNA and protein from [3H]-thymidine and [3H]-leucine, respectively. A dose-dependent effect of maternal vitamin A restriction on the metabolism of DNA, RNA and protein was noticed in the developing fetal brain of rats.  相似文献

Summary A photoperiodic response was found to be absent in larvae of the parasitoid waspApanteles glomeratus when its host (caterpillars ofPieris brassicae) was reared on a low-carotenoid artificial diet. Addition of vitamin A to the host's diet restored the response to short-day photoperiods in the wasp larvae, thus showing that vitamin A is essential for photoperiodic induction of diapause. Possibly vitamin A or a derivative of vitamin A functions as the photoreceptor pigment for the photoperiodic reaction in this species of insect.  相似文献

Through subtraction of tumor-specific CpG methylation, we identified receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 2 (ROR2) as a candidate tumor suppressor gene (TSG). ROR2 is a specific receptor or co-receptor for WNT5A, involved in canonical and non-canonical WNT signaling, with its role in tumorigenesis controversial. We characterized its functions and related cell signaling in common carcinomas. ROR2 was frequently silenced by promoter CpG methylation in multiple carcinomas including nasopharyngeal, esophageal, gastric, colorectal, hepatocellular, lung, and breast cancers, while no direct correlation of ROR2 and WNT5A expression was observed. Ectopic expression of ROR2 resulted in tumor suppression independent of WNT5A status, through inhibiting tumor cell growth and inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. ROR2 further suppressed epithelial-mesenchymal transition and tumor cell stemness through repressing β-catenin and AKT signaling, leading to further inhibition of tumor cell migration/invasion and increased chemo-sensitivity. Thus ROR2, as an epigenetically inactivated TSG, antagonizes both β-catenin and AKT signaling in multiple tumorigenesis. Its epigenetic silencing could be a potential tumor biomarker and therapeutic target for carcinomas.  相似文献
