Summary N-Isopropyl-nor-adrenaline (aleudrine), which normally reduces the blood pressure, exerts after treatment with parasympathetic stimulants, especially after pilocarpine, an increase of the blood pressure, which is considerably stronger than that produced by adrenaline. This pressor effect of aleudrine is, contrary to the hypotensive action, cholinergic as it is abolished by atropine, whereas it remains fully unaffected by nicotinization. The pressor effect of aleudrine thus corresponds to the analogous action of choline, the mechanism of which was elucidated byForst.

Evolution du métabolisme des lécithines dans la membrane érythrocytaire au cours de la conservation du sang

Summary Incorporation of linoleic acid¹⁴C by human erythrocyte membranes at different stades of blood conservation was studied for evaluating the metabolic state of these membranes. The incorporation was found to increase during the first two weeks of conservation for female and male blood, with important individual variation. However, this increase was more important for male blood. Then the incorporation decreased until the end of experimentation, after 6 weeks of conservation.

Summary Addition of polyelectrolytes, in particular of the sodium salt of carboxymethylcellulose, makes it possible to obtain for the use in artificial kidneys dialyzing liquids which are in thermodynamic equilibrium with blood, both with respect to salts and water, or which even permit removal of water from the blood, as well as urea and related substances (the dialyzing liquid being at will hypertonic with respect to blood), the salt content of blood remaining in all these cases unaffected. These dialyzing liquids might be particularly useful for cases combined with oedema.

Production of lesions in various tissues by amino acids

Zusammenfassung Es wird der Einfluss einer Aminosäure auf verschiedene Gewebsarten und auch auf die Haut kontrolliert. Unterschiedlich starke, z.T. schwere Degenerationen, Entzündungen und auch Zellauflösungen waren festzustellen. Teilweise kam es zu Riesenzellbildungen oder zu Fibrosen in der Leber. Etude, à l'aide de microsphères,de la distribution de l'irrigation carotidienne chez le rat

Summary The carotid blood distribution has been evaluated using radioactive microspheres in 13 regions of the head and in 10 cerebral structures of rats, and the intracerebral distribution of blood has been studied comparatively after injection of microspheres into the left cardiac ventricle or into the internal carotid artery. The principal results indicate that the cerebral tissue is not supplied by the external carotid blood, whereas about 30% of the internal carotid blood goes to the brain, and that the pontomedullary region receives its blood mainly from the vertebral artery.

The kidney and fibrinolysis in man

Zusammenfassung Während Nierenoperationen vorgenommene Messungen ergaben, dass eine in der Funktion stark eingeschränkte Niere weniger Urokinase in den Urin ausscheidet, ohne dass jedoch die fibrinolytische Aktivität im Venenblut zunimmt. Es wird daraus geschlossen, dass die Nieren keine erheblichen Mengen Plasminogen-aktivierender Stoffe an das Blut abgeben.

Summary Adjuvant arthritis in rat is inhibited by an oxonate diet, which increases uricemia. The inhibition is proportional to blood uric acid level and not to oxonate concentration in the diet. Oxonate alone does not exert an inhibitory effect.

Summary Acetoin and 2, 3-butylene glycol in blood of renal and hepatic patients are raised, when consciousness is disturbed. There is no correlation between blood levels of acetoin and 2, 3-butylene glycol and the degree of impairment of consciousness. Simultaneous determinations of acetoin and 2, 3-butylene glycol in blood and cerebrospinal fluid show that alterations of the cerebral pyruvic acid metabolism are difficult to detect in circulating blood.
