Summary A method is described for the introduction of a PVC.-Catheter into the portal vein of dogs. The catheter is introduced into one of the mesenteric veins of the ileum and pushed through the vena mesenterica communis until the portal vein is reached. The catheter, the end of which is fixed to the skin on the outside, can be removed without any injury to the animal by just drawing it out through the skin. The method can be applied for taking blood at various intervals during experiments on absorption, measurement of blood pressure in the portal vein and its branches, for the injection of substances directly into the liver, etc., on unanaesthetized animals.  相似文献

Summary The effect of urethane and pentobarbital anaesthesia and hepatic portal vein catheterization on liver blood flow was investigated in the rat. Liver blood flow with pentobarbital anaesthesia was 40% greater than with urethane. Hepatic portal vein catheterization had no effect under pentobarbital anaesthesia whereas it produced an 18% fall in liver blood flow with urethane.Acknowledgments. The cyclicity and intensity of gastric motlity were examined following glucose injection into the portal vein with an intragastric balloon in anesthetized rats. Enhanced gastric motility caused by insulin administration was influenced by 4 mM glucose (25 l) injected into the portal vein; glucose provoked a shift in the cyclicity power spectrum without any change in intensity. The peak power spectrum shifted from 4.0–5.0 cpm to 2.0–3.0 cpm. Hepatic branch vagotomy abolished the response.The results suggest that glucose signals in the hepatic vagal branch modulate the cyclicity of gastric motiligy.  相似文献

Summary The innervation of the rat portal vein was studied using the cholinesterase histochemical method 2 plexuses of cholinergic nerve fibers were found; an external plexus localized at the level of the outer adventitial layers and an inner plexus at the level of the adventitial-medial transitional zone and in the outer layers of the media.Acknowledgments. Plastic casts of the portal system, after PVC particles implantation, show modifications in the portal bed and are compared with plastic casts obtained in mice infested by Schistosoma mansoni. Direction of blood flow in angularis oculi veins was recorded in humans. In mild hypothermia, blood flow was weak and directed from brain to face. In hyperthermia, however, blood flowed rapidly in the opposite direction, angularis oculi vein collecting cool facial blood and supplying cavernous sinus. The results of experiments with isolated strips of rat portal vein, and of ‘sandwich’ experiments involving strips of the portal vein or aorta, revealed the involvement of endothelin in the development of myogenic reactions of the vascular smooth muscle, observed on distension of the vascular wall. Released by the endothelial cells, endothelin is capable of stimulating the contraction of these muscles.  相似文献

Summary An experimental model of schistosomal portal fibrosis is described. Sepharose beads the size of schistosome eggs, loaded or not with soluble egg antigen (SEA) fromSchistosoma mansoni, are injected into the coecal vein of C3H/Sn mice and become embolized in the liver. Only SEA-coated beads evoke a granulomatous reaction; this is enhanced by simultaneous priming of the mice with spleen cells fromSchistosoma mansoni-infected syngeneic animals. The fibrosis, which ensues around the beads, is stable and is much more evident after priming. Preliminary collagen tissue immunotyping reveals the presence of collagen deposits of types I and III collagen. Type IV collagen remains unchanged in the portal tracts. The model appears to be well suited for studies of the pathogenesis of portal fibrosis.This work was supported by a contract from INSERM (Action Spéciale No 3).  相似文献

Unusually high blood sugar values may be caused by the slightest contamination of the blood obtained after puncture of the tail vein by diabetic urine, that has dried onto the tails of the animals. This can be avoided by collecting blood that is allowed to drip from the severed tip of the tail or by carefully cleaning the tail before puncturing the tail vein.  相似文献
