Decrease of mast cells in regional lymph nodes in response to allogeneic antigens and syngeneic tumor antigens

Summary The absolute number of mast cells in regional lymph nodes decreases on the 5th day after stimulation by allogeneic lymphocytes and semisyngeneic leukaemic cells, despite the enlargement of stimulated lymph nodes. It is postulated that the reaction of lymphatic mast cells could be a sensitive test for tissue incompatibility, and probably also for the presence of tumor associated antigens.     

Prolonged survival of AKR mice following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation

Zusammenfassung Die Mehrzahl der AKR Mäuse, die nach Immunosuppression und Transplantation von Knochenmark und lymphoiden Zellen allogener H₂-identischer Spender die «Graft-versus-Host» Reaktion überlebten, zeigten signifikant verlängerte mittlere Überlebenszeiten gegenüber Kontrolltieren, welche mit Immunosuppression allein oder Immunosuppression plus sygenen Zellen behandelt wurden.

Influence of presensitization with allogeneic lymphoma cells on the growth and response to therapy of radiation-induced lymphomas in mice

Summary Congenic mice were sensitized with viableH-2-incompatible radiation-induced lymphomas (RIL), challenged with syngeneic RIL and treated with bis-chloroethyl-nitrosourea. Summary A marked decrease of cholesterol and free fatty acids was found in the cortisone-resistant lymphoid cells from thymus or spleen of mice immunized with Ehrlich carcinoma cells when incubated with the tumor cells.

Trials of mixed grafts of 5 cell lines from human brain tumors in athymic nude mice]

Five established lines derived from human brain tumors were mixed in pairs and injected into athymic nude Mice. The observation of mixed tumors and patterns of rejection obtained after inoculation enabled us to classify these five lines according to their aggressiveness in a heterologous host. In addition, the SA 52 line induced an inhibitory effect on graft growth (or a facilitation of rejection).     

Importance of immunological mechanism in the curing of experimental trypanosomiasis by physical stimulation]

The cure of Trypanosoma equiperdum infected Mice obtained after treatment with an association of electromagnetic waves and a magnetic field is probably linked with the immune state of the host. A severe depression of the immune system suppresses the ability of the animals to eliminate the parasites after physical stimulation.     

Importance of respiratory route in experimental salmonellosis in Balb/c mice]

Infection of Mice with S. typhimurium, was conducted by respiratory, oral and peritoneal routes. The results obtained showed that infection occurred more quickly by i. p. than by other routes. However i. n. inoculation is the more efficient concerning Bacteria concentration per Mousse to obtain the DL 100. A study of Salmonella growth in vivo was conducted in lungs, spleen, liver and blood. The results are discussed in relation to the calf respiratory Salmonellosis actually observed.     

Ultrastructure of the rat neurohypophysis following electric stimulation of the supraoptic nuclei]

By means of electrical stimulation of the supraoptic nuclei, in a stereotaxic apparatus, partial or complete degranulation of the neurohypophysis is obtained, with often a continued presence of large vesicles; the number of microvesicles is always increased.     

Protective and immunostimulating activity of a low dose of cyclophosphamide in the experimental infection of mice with foot-and-mouth disease virus

Administration to mice of a low, non-immunosuppressive dose of cyclophosphamide 4 days before infection with foot-and-mouth disease virus decreases viral replication, enhances the immune response against the virus and prevents pancreatic damage.

Modification of human adenovirus type 7 after culture in guinea pig brain cells in vitro]

Multiplication of human adenovirus 7 (Ad7) is restricted in subcultures of adult Guinea Pig brain cells. It was however possible to recover enough infectious virus to purify it, and to study its properties. Several properties are similar to that of Ad 7 produced in HeLa cells but differences in sensitivity to cesium chloride and in its polypeptide composition were found.     

Detection of fibrillary bodies in human and experimental leukemias by polarizing microscopy]

An optical polarizing microscope with a good coefficient of extinction permits the visualization of the cytoplasmic fibrillar body in living preparations and smears of leukemic cells (human leukemias and the L 5222 experimental leukemia). These inclusions are not visible by phase contrast microscopy nor in fixed and stained smears.     

Strain difference in sex ratio response of mice to lactate dehydrogenase virus infection

Zusammenfassung Durch Infektion mit LDH-Virus wird bei Mäusen, deren Nachkommen normalerweise ein Geschlechtsverhältnis <1 aufweisen, ein solches von 1 erreicht. Da sich die Infektion der Eltern beider Stämme nicht in einer unterschiedlichen Zunahme der Serum-LDH, wohl aber in einer solchen der Spermien-LDH auswirkt, wird angenommen, dass die LDH-Aktivität der Spermien sich in einer zwar noch unbekannten Weise auf das Geschlechtsverhältnis der Nachkommen auswirkt.

Heterotransplantation of human glioblastoma in the brain of newborn mice]

7 human multiform glioblastoma have been transplanted into the brain of 100 new born Mice. Electron microscopy and chromosome analysis confirm the growth of a human tumor showing malignant features of glioblastoma.
