Riassunto La tripaflavina, quale complessante in vivo degli acidi nucleici e dei nucleotidi, è capace di bloccare al livello delle sinapsi neuromiocardiche l'effetto del vago. Viene presa in considerazione la possibilità che l'RNA possa essere in qualche maniera implicato nella trasmissione sinaptica, in particolare, nel meccanismo d'azione dell'acetilcolina.     

Experimental observations on the participation of macrophages in the mechanism of antibody production

Riassunto Gli autori hanno iniettato nella zampa di conigli riceventi materiale macrofagico di essudato peritoneale di conigli donatori immunizzati conSalmonellae per via intraperitoneale; hanno poi osservato agglutinazionein vitro fra cellule di linfonodo popliteo degli animali riceventi, eSalmonallae del ceppo usato per l'immunizzazione. Gli autori ritengono quindi probabile che i macrofagi abbiano la capacità di trasferire stimoli antigenici.

Zusammenfassung Experimente in situ haben gezeigt, dass durch Suspensionen der Gameten bei reifen Seeigeln (Paracentrotus lividus Lam.) ein Ausstossen der Gameten induziert wird. Diese Reaktion ist streng geschlechtsspezifisch.     

A possible role of microtubules in the C cells secretory mechanism

Riassunto Le modalità di secrezione dei granuli contenenti Calcitonina da parte delle cellule C sono state studiate in tiroidi di cane in condizioni normali e in coltura organotipica con alto tenore di calcio. È stata notata la presenza di numerosi microtubuli alla periferia delle cellule e alcune immagini suggeriscono un attacco dei microtubuli ai granuli secretori. Viene prospettato che i microtubuli abbiano importanza nel meccanismo di secrezione delle cellule C e forse delle cellule della serie APUD in generale, e che questo possa essere del tipo «emiocitosi».     

Histochemical evidence on the accumulation of sulfated proteins in the innermost laticifers of theEuphorbia marginata embryo

Summary The presence of proteins containing sulfhydryl and disulfide groups was demonstrated by fluorescent mercurials in the cytoplasm of the innermost embryonal laticifers ofEuphorbia marginata. The finding is discussed in the context of the role of the embryonal laticifers.     

On the distribution in brain of monoamines and of enzymes responsible for their formation

Zusammenfassung Im menschlichen Gehirn kommen grosse Mengen von 3-Hydroxytyramin im Nucleus Caudatus und dem Putamen vor.Injektion von 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanin in Kaninchen bringt eine schnelle Akkumulation von 3-Hydroxytyramin in den Gehirnteilen, die reich an Katecholaminen sind, zustande. Die Fähigkeit das akkumulierte 3-Hydroxytyramin abzubauen scheint im ganzen Gehirn dieselbe zu sein.Hemmungsversuche und Aktivitätsuntersuchungen der Fermente in verschiedenen Gehirnteilenin vitro sprechen dafür, dass 5-Hydroxytryptophan und 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanin von einem und demselben Ferment decarboxyliert werden.     

Enzymes of non-agglutinable vibrios and their possible role in the development of enterotoxic factor

Résumé Sachant que le facteur entérotoxique peut être développé dans les vibrions non-agglutinables par transfer animal, nous avons déterminé les activités enzymatiques (mucinase, protéase, lécithinase) de ces vibrions. Après ce transfert l'activité lécithinasique a augmenté, et cette activité est semblable à celle d'un virus (V. cholerae). Nous supposons que l'augmentation du facteur entérotoxique est causée par celle de l'activité de la lécithinase.

Free and membrane-bound ribosomes in maturing neurones of the chick and their possible functional significance

Zusammenfassung Die Histogenese sowie die Anordnung und Verteilung der Nissl-Substanz wurde an ausreifenden Neuronen des Hühnchenrückenmarks licht- und elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. In den ersten Phasen der Neurogenese wurden nur freie Ribosome im Cytoplasma aufgefunden. Mit fortschreitender Reifung bilden sich erste Profile des endoplasmatischen Retikulums aus, die spärlich mit Ribosomen besetzt sind. Diese Befunde werden funktionell ausgedeutet.

Pineal function in the sheep: evidence for a possible mechanism mediating seasonal reproductive activity

Summary The 24-h profiles of plasma melatonin in the intact ewe in natural light indicate that a bimodal pattern of secretion is frequently present in oestrus, whereas a single dark-phase peak is characteristic of anoestrus. Based on these findings, a mechanism for the possible pineal-mediated control of seasonal breeding is proposed.This work was supported by the Medical Research Council and the Agricultural Research Council of Great Britain. Zusammenfassung Signifikante Unterschiede des gesamten Fettgehaltes zwischen S- und R-Arten derSpodoptera littoralis wurden nicht festgestellt. DDT und Methylparathion wurden im Gegensatz zu Carbaryl in den R-Arten gespeichert und die Reduktionsrate von Methylparathion erwies sich als wesentlich niedriger als bei DDT.
