Effect of benzatropine on the O-methylation of striatal dopamine]

After treatment by nialamid, benztropine administered to Rats produced an increase in the level of 3-O-methyldopamine in the corpus striatum. It produced a slight increase in the level of striatal dopamine and no change in the level of norepinephrine. The monoamine oxydase and catechol-O-methyltransferase activities of remaining brain showed no variations by benztropine. The results suggest the possible involvement of striatal dopamine and its extraneuronally catabolism in the antiparkinsonian effect of benztropine.

Effect of hydrocortisone administration on erythropoiesis in the adrenalectomized dog

Resumen La administración de 2 mg/kg/día de hidrocortisona durante 40 días en perros adrenalectomizados 4 meses antes produjo elevación del volumen de la masa roja circulante y de la síntesis de hemoglobina. El tratamiento con la hormona en la dosis de 4 mg/kg/día durante los siguientes 40 días produjo más aumento de la actividad eritropoyética de la médula ósea, una gran proporción de la cuál fue inefectiva en términos de producción de eritrocitos, produciéndose un descenso de la masa roja circulante.

Effect of a restricted diet on the in vitro glucose-induced insulin release of aging rats

To study the effect of a sudden loss of body weight on the -cell function of aging rats, basal and glucose-induced insulin secretion was measured in pancreatic islets obtained from young (2-month-old), adult (12-month-old) and aging (24-month-old) rats, either fed ad libitum or fed a restricted diet (50% caloric restriction). Basal insulin secretion was similar in islets of young, adult and older rats. Glucose stimulated insulin release was significantly reduced in aging rats as compared to young animals. Animals fed a restricted diet showed a prolonged and higher secretory rate during first phase release when compared to animals fed ad libitum.

Effect of vasoactive amines on Weibel-Palade bodies in capillary endothelial cells

The presence and distribution of Weibel-Palade bodies in stomach and colonic mucosal microvessels after the administration of vasoactive amines (serotonin and histamine), the serotonin depletor reserpine, and the von Willebrand factor secretagogue thrombin, was studied by transmission electron microscopy. These agents elevated the number of Weibel-Palade bodies in all microvascular endothelial cells and especially in capillaries. It is concluded that vasoactive amines enhance the synthesis and secretion of large von Willebrand protein multimers by endothelial cells.

Effect of vasopressin on hepatocytic and ductal bile formation in the dog

Zusammenfassung In Studien an 8 cholecystektomierten, mit einerThomas-Kanüle versehenen, nicht-anaesthesierten Hunden konnte nach i.v. Injektion von 0,5 E pro kg Körpergewicht Lysin-8-Vasopressin eine Erhöhung des Gallenflusses um durchschnittlich 55% beobachtet werden. Da die biliäre Clearance von¹⁴C-Erythritol — ein Mass des canaliculären Gallenflusses — gleichzeitig anstieg, die Cholerese aber als Zusatz einer HCO₃ —und Cl^– reichen Flüssigkeit imponierte, scheint es wahrscheinlich, dass Vasopressin hepatocytäre und ductuläre Mechanismen der Gallenbildung beeinflusst.
