Acid hydrolases of the coccidian Eimeria tenella

Activities of acid hydrolases were higher in sporozoites of Eimeria tenella than in unsporulated and sporulated oocysts. These enzymes along with proteinases may be involved in the penetration of epithelial cells of chicken cecum by sporozoites.     

Immunocytochemical anatomy of alpha granules in the human endocrine pancreas]

Using the sensitive protein A-gold technique for the demonstration of antigenic sites in thin section for electron microscopy it was found that in the alpha granules of human pancreas, glucagon immunoreactivity (specific, C-terminal) is restricted to the dense granule core while glicentin immunoreactivity predominates on the peripheral halo surrounding the dense core.     

Anti-elastase of human pancreas: preparation and biological interest

The present paper deals with the use of a new technique in type II human pancreatic elastase studies based on the use of a reversible immune-adsorbent which provides a unique specificity. According to the type of ligand linked on activated Sepharose, the elastase or its antibody in Rabbit could be obtained, in very pure form, in a one step process. The anti-human pancreatic elastase II, which specifically inhibits the enzyme, may be used in therapy whenever the elastase-inhibitor system becomes unbalanced.

Summary Buffalo sperm acrosome resembles its counterpart in other species, being rich in hydrolytic enzymes. Of the enzyme activities estimated, acid phosphatase, -N-acetylglucosaminidase and hyaluronidase were low compared to those of ram semen. However, the aryl sulphatase activity was high. Excretion of acid hydrolases during molting inPhilosamia ricini

Summary The level of the acid hydrolases -glucuronidase (EC 3.2.3.11), acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2) and acid protease (EC 3.4.4) was studied during larval growth and molting inP. ricini. The level of activity of these enzymes remained low during larval growth; however, the level increased sharply at the time of molting and declined sharply thereafter in the newly ecdysed insect. Interestingly, the diminished activity of these enzymes was almost quantitatively recovered in the cast-off cuticle. The excretion of acid hydrolases through the cast-off cuticle has hitherto not been reported in insects during molting.

Cell isolation procedures showed a selectivity in the loss of brush border hydrolases; this indicated that the microvilli blebbing was not the only mechanism of action of lectins on rat enterocytes.

Characterization of a thermosensitive protein from human milk whey

Summary A human milk whey protein, which aggregates at room temperature and resolubilizes when cooled, was purified by chromatography on hydroxyapatite. The present study demonstrated that the thermosensitive protein is a nonphosphorylated form of -casein.We thank Dr J.J. Pahud for preparation of anti Na-caseinate antiserum and Miss D. Lysosomal hydrolases in lymphoid tissue from germ-free and neonatal rats

Zusammenfassung Die Ergebnisse histochemischer Färbeverfahren für -Galaktosidase und -Glukuronidase in lymphoiden Geweben von keimfreien Ratten sind ähnlich denjenigen von neugeborenen Tieren. Diese Daten stellen einen zusätzlichen Beweis für die wichtige Rolle der Antigene bei der normalen neonatalen Entwicklung der lysosomalen Enzymaktivität dar.     

Characterization and localization of the rat,mouse and human testicular phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein

A cytosolic 23kDa protein was initially puified from bovine brain and shown to bind phosphatidylethanolamine. Later, it was also characterized in rat and human brain, and it is now known to be widespread, having been found in numerous tisues in several species. Here, we report the high level of mRNA and phosphatidyl ethanolamine binding protein expression in rat testis and to a lesser extent mouse testis. In human testis, although it was not detectable by Northern blot analysis, the mRNA was shown be present when PCR amplificatin was performed. Immunohistochemical experiments revealed that the testicular phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein (tPBP) is principally expressed in the elongated spermatids of both rat and mouse testis. This finding, and the association of tPBP with cellular membranes, suggest its possible implication in membrane remodelling during spermatid maturation.
