A radioimmunoassay for deoxycorticosterone in human peripheral plasma using sephadex LH-20 chromatography

Resumen Se reporta un nuevo método para medir desoxicorticosterona en plasma, usando cromatografía de columna LH-20 y radioinmunoensayo. Las cantidades de plasma necesarios para dicho ensayo son mínimas (2 ml) comparadas con otros métodos en la literatura, es un método practico, sensillo y rápido. Resultados así obtenidos han sido comparados con otros métodos, dichos resultados son más precisos y sensitivos para medir valores de desoxicorticosterona en plasma humano.     

A direct plasma testosterone radioimmunoassay

Résumé On a développé und méthode simple pour déteminer sans chromatographie en colonne le testostérone du plasma. La purification a été faite par préextraction avec l'hexane. Un antisérum contre le testostérone a été produit chez des lapins inoculés avec des conjugués de testostérone-3-oxine et d'albumine de sérum bovin.     

A technical improvement in the radioimmunoassay of cyclic-AMP.

An improvement in the technique for the radioimmunoassay of cyclic-AMP, wherein ammonium sulfate precipitation is replaced with zirconyl phosphate gel, is presented. This substitution produces a more stable pellet than that obtained with ammonium sulfate. This greatly reduces a potential source of error due to pellet instability.     

Affinity chromatography of human serum proteins using matrix bound lectin fromViscum album L.

Summary The D-galactose specific lectin fromViscum album L. reacts with serum proteins that contain the corresponding D-galactopyranosyl residues. By affinity chromatography of human serum on lectin-sepharose IgM, ₂-macroglobulin, haptoglobin and -lipoprotein were quantitatively retained. Only parts of IgA, IgG and transferrin were retarded. The other serum proteins are unbounded as albumin, ₁A– and ₁C.     

A mouse system for demonstrating the presence of inflammatory factors from human peripheral blood lymphocytes

Summary An assay system is described that allows the presence of inflammatory factors in supernatants from stimulated tuberculin-sensitive human peripheral blood lymphocytes to be demonstrated, by the induction of an inflammatory exudate in the peritoneal cavity of normal C57 BL mice.     

A radioimmunoassay of vasopressin. A note on pituitary vasopressin content in brattleboro rats

Zusammenfassung Die Empfindlichkeit und Zuverlässigkeit eines neu entwickelten Radioimmunotests für Vasopressin wurde durch Messungen des Vasopressinspiegels im Hypophysenhinterlappen von homozygoten und heterozygoten Ratten für angeborenen Diabetes insipidus geprüft und eine gute Korrelation zwischen dem biologisch und radioimmunologisch gemessenen Vasopressingehalt der Hypophyse nachgewiesen.     

A peripheral high molecular weight glycoprotein located at the surface of human platelets

Summary A high molecular weight glycoprotein solubilised during platelet membrane isolation appeared to be a peripheral component of the human platelet surface and was susceptible to the action of neuraminidase when added to washed platelet suspensions.Part of this work was performed at The Nuffield Institute of Comparative Medicine, Zoological Society of London, Regents Park, London (England).     

Mitogenic activity of selenoorganic compounds in human peripheral blood leukocytes

Summary A variety of organoselenium compounds were originally described as antiinflammatory, antioxidant or glutathione-peroxidase-like agents, and as inhibitors of prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis. Recently, the compounds have also been found to be inducers of interferon gamma and tumor necrosis factor in human peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL). We evaluated the effects of bis [2-(N-phenylcarboxamido)phenyl] diselenide and Ebselen^®; 2-phenyl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)one, on the incorporation of tritiated thymidine into the DNA of PBL cultured in vitro. Both compounds were mitogenic and this effect was correlated with the expression of interleukin 2 receptor in T-lymphocytes. Therefore, we suggest that the selenoorganic compounds may induce mitogenic cytokines.     

An actin-destabilizing factor is present in human plasma

Summary Plasma and serum of humans or experimental animals contain a factor which destabilizes F-actin. The factor has no DNAse or thrombin activity and after incubation with F-actin does not modify the position of the actin band on a SDS polyacrylamide gel. A template for the rapid measurement of Rf-values in thin-layer chromatography

Zusammenfassung Eine Schablone zur direkten Messung von Rf-Werten auf Dünnschichtplatten wird beschrieben, deren Ausführung den Besonderheiten der Dünnschichtchromatographie angepasst ist. Mit Hilfe dieser Schablone konnte die Auswertung von Chromatogrammen vereinfacht und wesentlich beschleunigt werden.
