Local adjuvants: The influence of sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate on immunization with aerosolized antigen

Summary Guinea-pig respiratory and serum antibody responses were enhanced following exposure to aerosols of bovine IgG₂ dissolved in solutions of sodium dodecylbenzene sulphate (SDBS). Enhanced response was seen in both primary and secondary immunization. Cell-mediated immune response (indirect macrophage migration influencing test) was not altered by SDBS. Results are discussed with a view to the possible utility of SDBS as adjuvant for prophylactic immunization.Acknowledgment. This research was supported by a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health. The influence of sodium. thiosulfate on experimental tumor induction

Zusammenfassung Mäuse wurden mit einer Diät ernährt, die 0,4% Natriumthiosulfat enthielt. Nach Injektion von Methylcholanthren entwickelten sich dann weniger lokale Tumoren als bei den Kontrolltieren. Ebenso gab es seltener Lungenadenome nach Verabreichung von Urethan. Dasselbe zeigte sich bei Ratten: durch Buttergelb wurden weniger Hepatome erzeugt, wenn gleichzeitig Natriumthiosulfat gegeben wurde.

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass Thymol sowie Coffein in der Barnakel-Muskelfaser eine primäre Hemmung mit nachfolgender Stimulierung des Natrium-Auswärtsstromes hervorruft.

Influence of thiol-inhibiting substances on the effects of ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) on chromosomes

Résumé Des semences d'orge et des graines de fèverolle ont été traitées par des solutions de sublimé corrosif et d'un arsénoxyde avant traitement par du méthane sulfonate d'éthyl. Chacun des ions accroît considérablement les effets de l'EMS sur les chromosomes d'une manière dépendant du pH, de la concentration en ions et de la concentration en EMS.     

The influence of sodium transport on glucose transport by anin vitro intestinal preparation

Riassunto Vengono riportati i dati ottenuti sul trasporto di sodio e di glucosio attraverso l'intestino isolato di ratto, perfuso con soluzioni isotoniche a diverso contenuto di sodio. Da questi dati appare che non solo il trasporto di sodio dipende dalla concentrazione di sodio nel liquido mucosale, ma anche il transporto di glucosio. Si prospetta l'ipotesi, inoltre, che il passaggio di sodio dalla mucosa alla sierosa sia necessario sopratutto per il trasferimento del glucosio dalle cellule al liquido serosale.     

Effects of tricaine methane sulphonate (M.S. 222) on the blood glucose levels in adult salamanders (Diemicytlus viridescens)

Summary Exposure to M. S. 222 results in hyperglycemia in adult newts (Diemicytlus viridescens). A combination of higher anesthetic concentrations with reduced exposure periods reduces the magnitude of this form of stress response.This work was supported by National Research Council of Canada Grant No. A9753 to S. The influence of sodium salicylate on the formation of inorganic phosphate in human and rabbit erythrocytes in vitro

Zusammenfassung Natriumsalizylat in Konzentrationen von 2–20×10^–3 M verursacht einen bemerkenswerten Anstieg an anorganischem Phosphat sowohl in Kaninchen- wie auch in Menschenerythrozyten, die in 0,9% Natriumchlorid oder Tyrode-Locke's Lösung mehrfach gewaschen und suspendiert wurden.

In vivo inhibition of the tyrosinase of hamster melanoma with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate.

In vivo inhibition of the DOPA-oxydase activity of the soluble tyrosinase fraction of melanotic hamster melanoma is found after i.p. administration of diethyldithiocarbamate, with considerable increase in the content of SH-groups which probably play the role of free radical scavengers.     

On combined effects of deoxyfluorouridine (FUDR) with radiations and ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) on chromosomes

Résumé Des graines deNigella damascena et des graines d'orge ont été irradiés par les rayons du Co⁶⁰ ainsi que par des neutrons rapides. Ils ont ensuite été traités par la déoxyfluorouridine (FUDR) après différents temps de prégermination. On a observé que FUDR accroissait de manière nette les effets totaux des rayons sur les chromosomes (taux d'aberrations en anaphase). Par contre les effets des neutrons rapides n'ont été que faiblement modifés. Des effets synergiques ont également été obtenus chez l'orge après des traitements consécutifs FUDREMS.
