Summary The suggestion is put forward that the polymerisation and ATP-splitting in actin are independent processes and that perhaps fats and lipoids are concerned in ATP-actin binding. (A comparison is made between the strength of ATP-binding of different actins.)

Summary Simazin inhibits the Hill reaction, i.e. the use of light energy for the synthesis of energy-rich compounds. Isolated maize (corn) and spinach chloroplasts are, when analyzed in the Hill reaction, equally sensitive to the inhibitory action of Simazin. Furthermore, it does not influence the activity of catalase, nor does it inhibit respiration.Competitive inhibition of DPN is not seen in the presence of Simazin. On the other hand, this compound appears to interfere directly with the intermediate steps needing chlorophyll.

Summary Experiments withColeus Blumei andTropaeolum showed that triazine compounds inhibit the photosynthesis, and, consequently, prevent the accumulation of starch. The chloroplasts of starchfree coleus leaves kept on a solution containing sugars and simazine are able to form starch again.

Summary Further investigation on triazine-compounds led us to considerably more phytotoxic compounds than 2-chloro-4, 6-bis-(diethyl-amino)-s-triazine (G 25804), three of which were field-tested. 2-chloro-4, 6-bis-(ethyl-amino)-s-triazine (G 27692) showed a particularly good herbicidal activity and a considerable tolerance versus corn and cotton. From these preliminary tests G 27692 seems to be a promising overall toxic as well as a selective pre-and post-emergence herbicide for corn and cotton.

Über organische Fungizide

Summary A new group of organic compounds was tested with several laboratory methods, in the green-house and against different fungus diseases in the field. According to these tests the described sulfonamide derivatives show a fungicidal activity comparable to compounds which are actually used. So far Mesulfane seems to be the most promising compound.

Summary An investigation of 104 natural graphites shows in most of the samples a content <1 ppm mercury (Hg). An emissionspectrochemical method was used by the doubleare fromL. H. Ahrens. There are samples in the mine-ralogical collections with contents >10 ppm Hg, if metallic mercury is present in these collections.

Summary A modification of theGordon method for labelling polyvinylpyrrolidon with I¹³¹ is described. A more stable product with a higher iodine content has been obtained.

Summary Treating-Pentaacetyl-d-glucosamin with ethereal hydrochloric acid leads to 1-Chloro-3,4,6-N-tetraacetyl-d-glucosamin, whose structure is proved by infra-red-spectra and transformation to known products.

Untersuchungen über die Nikotinbildung des Tabaks

Summary During germination the tobacco seedling produces nicotine from proteins accumulated in the seed. Later on the nicotine formation of the growing tobacco plant is dependent on the protein synthesis in its root. The comparison of theprotein production by the tobacco root with thenicotine content of the whole plant shows an interesting parallelism.

Über Mercapto-triazinone mit tuberkulo-statischer Wirkung

Summary From thiosemicarbazones of aromatic and heterocyclic -ketoacids, a number of aromatically and heterocyclically substituted mercapto-triazinones were prepared, some of which, especially 6-(-pyridyl)-3-mercap-to-1,2,4-triazin-5-one, show definite antitubercular properties and low mammalian toxicity.     

Über den Mechanismus der Osazonreaktion

Summary For the osazone reaction of the reducing sugars, the following mechanism is suggested: the initially formed phenylhydrazone is converted with aniline into the N-glycoside. Aniline arises from disproportional decomposition of phenylhydrazine. The N-glycoside undergoes an Amadori-rearrangement to 1-deoxy-1-amino-2-ketose derivative. From this is formed the phenylhydrazone. The latter is converted by dehydrogenation and transamination into the phenylosazone.     

Über die Kristallstruktur des Azulens

Résumé La structure du réseau spatial de l'azulène cristallisé a été déterminée à l'aide des rayons X. Les valeurs des constantes du réseau sont en général les mêmes que celles trouvées parMisch etvan der Wyk. Au contraire, la statistique des interférences observées montre des différences importantes et conduit au groupe spatial P 2₁/a, à la place de P 2₁ et P 2₁/m indiqué par les auteurs cités.
