Comparative dominant lethal studies with phenylbutazone,thio-TEPA and MMS in the mouse

Zusammenfassung Im Gegensatz zu Thio-TEPA (N, N, N-Triaethylen-thiophosphoramid) und MMS (Methansulfonsäuremethylester) führten i.p. Dosen von Phenylbutazon (50 und 100 mg/kg) bei der Maus, unter Berücksichtigung von post- und prae-implantativen Gestationsstadien, zu keinen genetischen Effekten im Sinne der Induktion von dominanten Letalfaktoren.     

Controlled amylophagia in female mice

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass die Amylophagie bei der Maus keine Anämie, dagegen eine Verminderung der Graviditäten und Abnahme der pro Geburt geborenen Jungtiere herbeiführt.     

Neutrophilic granulocytosis following lead acetate in female mice

Summary Lead induces an abrupt neutrophilic granulocytosis with the peak response detected 4 days after treatment. Using the incorporation of tritiated thymidine as an index of neutrophil production, autoradiographic analysis revealed that only about 16% of the total neutrophil increase is associated with a stimulatory effect on production. The remainder of the increase appears to be linked to the panhistotoxic action of lead, promoting migration of neutrophils from reserve sites in the wake of tissue damage.     

Adrenal relationships to aggressiveness in isolated female mice

Résumé Lorsque des souris femelles soumises à l'isolement sont groupées selon leur tempérament belliquex et non-belliqueux, on observe une augmentation de l'activité médullossurrénalienne chez les animaux isolés belliquex. Au contraire, les souris isolées non-belliqueuses ont montré des taux de catécholamines inférieurs et une secrétion cortico-surrénale nettement augmentée.

Prenatal stress and postnatal androgen: Effects on reproduction in female rats

Summary Heat-restraint stress applied to pregnant rats during the last trimester disrupts oestrus cycles in female offspring and alters adrenal, ovarian and uterine weights at autopsy. Sexual receptivity is left intact. Prenatal stress may operate by increasing exposure of fetal females to androgens in utero.     

Influence of phenylbutazone on bile flow in the rat

Summary Phenylbutazone, a well-known enzyme inducer, at a dose of 80 mg·kg^–1 once daily for 8 days increases liver weight and bile flow expressed per g of liver (p<0.01). The bile salt secretory rate is not increased.     

Crowding during pregnancy delays puberty and alters estrous cycles of female offspring in mice

Chronic crowding of mice during late pregnancy resulted in offspring of lowered birthweights and, in the females, delayed puberty and altered estrous cycles. Plasma corticosterone in the crowded dams was elevated acutely, lending some support to the hypothesis of adrenocortical mediation of prenatal stress effects.

Effect of p-coumaric acid on immature estrogen treated and cyclic female mice

Summary Oral administration of p-coumaric acid to estrogen-primed immature female mice exerts neither estrogenic nor anti-estrogenic activity, but when it is administered to cyclic female mice in single dose at proestrus or in repeated doses, induces alteration in estrus cycle, ovarian and uterine weight and structure.The authors wish to thank Dr S.
