Effect and fate of intravenously administered porphobilin in rats

Summary It rats after i.v. prophobilin, blood pressure and pulse rate remained stable, the animals were calm and moved freely with no symptoms or signs of nervous effect. Prophobilin was rapidly excreted in the urine.     

Distribution of intravenously administered acidic and basic fibroblast growth factors in the mouse

Summary Iodinated acidic or basic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF or bFGF) were separately injected into adult mice to follow their distribution in the main organs of the animals. Iodinated FGFs intravenously injected into mice cleared from blood with aT _1/2 of 30 s. They mainly bound to kidney, liver and spleen. The binding of FGFs to these organs was maintained when the latter were washed with a physiological buffer containing 0.15 M NaCl, but it was eliminated when the buffer contained 2 M NaCl. Simultaneous injections of the FGFs together with increasing doses of heparin weakened the binding of FGF to vessels in a dose-dependent manner.

Cellular regulation and molecular interactions of the ferritins

Controlling iron/oxygen chemistry in biology depends on multiple genes, regulatory messenger RNA (mRNA) structures, signaling pathways and protein catalysts. Ferritin, a protein nanocage around an iron/oxy mineral, centralizes the control. Complementary DNA (antioxidant responsive element/Maf recognition element) and mRNA (iron responsive element) responses regulate ferritin synthesis rates. Multiple iron-protein interactions control iron and oxygen substrate movement through the protein cage, from dynamic gated pores to catalytic sites related to di-iron oxygenase cofactor sites. Maxi-ferritins concentrate iron for the bio-synthesis of iron/heme proteins, trapping oxygen; bacterial mini-ferritins, DNA protection during starvation proteins, reverse the substrate roles, destroying oxidants, trapping iron and protecting DNA. Ferritin is nature’s unique and conserved approach to controlled, safe use of iron and oxygen, with protein synthesis in animals adjusted by dual, genetic DNA and mRNA sequences that selectively respond to iron or oxidant signals and link ferritin to proteins of iron, oxygen and antioxidant metabolism. A comparison of the pharmacological activity in man of intravenously administered 1368-11368-11368-1, cannabinol,and cannabidiol

Resumen Se hizo un estudio comparativo de la actividad del ⁹-tetrahidrocannabinol, cannabinol, y cannabidiol en producir efectos similares a la marihuana cuando son inyectados i.v. a humanos. Estas substancias son los componentes predominantes de la marihuana o del hashish. Se encontro que a las dosis inyectados cannabidiol no tiene ninguna potencia, y que cannabinol es capaz de producir efectos tipicos de la marihuana, aunque a dosis varias veces mas grandes que las del ⁹-tetrahidrocannabinol.     

Effects of cyclophosphamide on the chemical composition of the glomerular basement membrane and non-collagenous urinary glycoprotein of the rat

Résumé La cyclophosphamide est un agent efficace dans le traitement de la néphrose lipoidique et de plusieurs maladies rhumatoides qui attaquent la membrane basale glomérulaire (MBG). Des analyses chimiques ont été effectuées sur la MBG et sur la glycoprotéine urinaire chez des rats traités et non traités. Entre les deux groupes on n'a pas constaté de différence dans la composition des amino-acids, mais de grands changements dans le glucose et le galactose de la MBG et la glycoprotéine urinaire ont été observés chez les rats traités à la cyclophosphamide; cette drogue semble donc capable d'altérer l'intégrité de la MBG.

Experimental studies on the formation of glomerular epithelial cell coat and basement membrane

Résumé Les études faites au microscope électronique sur les reins de rats marqués in vivo à l'argent et colorés in vitro au rouge de ruthenium ont montré qu'une partie de la membrane de base glomérulaire rénale est constituée par les cellules épithéliale viscérales. Cette partie est sécrétée de la même manière et en même temps que la couche cellulaire recouvrant les cellules viscérales et sa coloration est semblable.     

The influence of simultaneously administered mexamine on the distribution of cystamine-35S

Summary The³⁵S-distribution after simultaneous administration of a mixture of cystamine-³⁵S and mexamine (20 mg/kg+10 mg/kg) has changed as compared with the groups treated with cystamine-³⁵S only.     

Investigations on the effects of chronically administered small amounts of DDT in mice

Zusammenfassung BALB-c Mäusen wurde während 5 Generationen DDT (0,3–0,6 mg/kg Körpergewicht) verabreicht. Bei 61 Tieren (8,92%) traten maligne Veränderungen ein (Leukemien, Tumoren), während in der Kontrollgruppe nur 5 Tiere (1,22%) erkrankten.
