Permeability coefficients of the egg-case membrane of Scyliorhinus canicula L

The cleidoic egg-case of the dogfish appears to have a highly porous and permeable outer membrane, the pore radius being computed to be 13.6 A. It does not present any physiological barrier to small molecules and therefore constitutes an open ionic and osmotic system for the embryo. Being a porous protein membrane it may be of value as a model for molecular transport mechanisms.     

A contribution to the temperature sensitivity of Lorenzinian ampullae of Elasmobranchs

Zusammenfassung In einigen isolierten infraorbitalen Lorenzinischen Ampullen von Katzenhaien wurden Rezeptoren gefunden, deren Erregungsmuster bei Temperatursprüngen dem Verhalten von Warmrezeptoren bei Warmblütern entspricht. Bei einer Reihe von Ampullen, die wie Kaltrezeptoren reagierten, wurde nach Kälteoder Wärmesprüngen ein adaptives Verhalten beobachtet, das von der bisher beschriebenen Reaktionsweise der Lorenzinischen Ampullen bei Temperaturänderungen abweicht.

Zusammenfassung Die Kontraktionsintensität bleibt auch dann unverändert, wenn die Polypen vonHydra attenuata dem Dunkel-Hell-Wechsel (je 2 min) während 3 h ausgesetzt werden. Dunkeladaptierte Hydren reagieren auf Lichtreize auffallend empfindlicher als bei 3000 Lux helladaptierte Tiere.

Influence of nocloprost on the vascular responses to various stimuli in the isolated perfused rabbit kidney

Summary Nocloprost, a new synthetic prostanoid, elicited a vasodilator action when given through the renal artery of the isolated perfused rabbit kidney. Lower concentrations of the compound inhibited the pressor response to sympathetic stimulation or to angiotensin II, but potentiated the pressor effect of exogenous noradrenaline. These results were taken as an evidence that nocloprost prevents the release of neurotransmitter by a presynaptic mechanism.This work was supported by a grant from the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council (TAG-578).
