Inhibition of adrenal cortical hormones by an extract of lymphoid tissue

Résumé Les résultats obtenus indiqueraient une relation étroite entre le tissu lymphatique et les glandes endocrines, l'hypophyse et les corticosurrénales. Les auteurs suggèrent la possibilité d'un système endocrinaire, comprenant l'hypothalamus, l'hypophyse, les surrénales et le tissu lymphatique.     

Study of the cortical field potentials produced by weak light stimulation in adult rabbits]

On a chronic preparation of an adult Rabbit, the cortical visual evoked response, produced by a weak luminous stimulation activating only the scotopic system is characterized by the suppression of the early surface-positive phase and by a lengthening of the latencies of the following deflection. The profile of the fields of potential corresponding to the various defletions in relation to the depth, has been investigated.     

Effects in man of a total adrenal cortical extract on delayed immunity and lymphocyte sub-populations]

After a 10 day treatment with total adreno-cortical extract, administered to 11 subjects, the following results were obtained: increase of delayed cutaneous responses to various antigens, increase in the number of null lymphocytes, decrease in the number of B lymphocytes. These changes did not occur in 16 control patients who were not treated.     

Adrenocorticotrophic hormone and cyclic adenosine monophosphate effect on mouse adrenal cortical cell membrane potential

Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) both caused a rapid and transient depolarization of the resulting membrane potential of superfused rat adrenal cortical cells. The membrane depolarization to both secretagogues were very similar. The membrane potential changes occurred as early as 0.1 min and were dose dependent in both onset and extent of depolarization.

Summary Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) both caused a rapid and transient depolarization of the resting membrane potential of superfused rat adrenal cortical cells. Simultaneous measurement of pyridine nucleotide fluorescence and field potentials from the olfactory cortical slice of the guinea-pig

Summary A new probe (tip diameter=700 m) consisting of a micro-light guide and a silver wire electrode was constructed to measure pyridine nucleotide fluorescence and field potentials from nerve tissues. Good kinetic correlations were found between the changes in field potentials and tissue pyridine nucleotide fluorescence caused by stoppage or by resumption of superfusion.     

A theoretical consideration of the interaction of antidiuretic hormones and sodium retaining hormones in the kidney

Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit ist eine Theorie der Nierenfunktion entwickelt worden, welche eine Wechselbeziehung zwischen den antidiuretischen und natriumretendierenden Hormonen aufzeigt. Durch diese Theorie werden einige bisher nicht verständliche Phänomene der Nierenphysiologie erklärt.     

Origin of the direct cortical response as studied in vitro in thin cortical sections

Résumé Pour examiner l'origine de la réponse corticale par stimulation directe, le potentiel produit dans la mince section corticale a été étudié. Dans la tranche qui se compose seulement de la couche moleculaire, la configuration de la réponse a été la même que celle qui a été suscitée dans le cortex intact. La propriété du potentiel indique que non seulement les ondes initiales rapides mais aussi les ondes secondaires retardées ont atteint la portion éloignée des dendrites apicalaux.     

Mitoses in the adrenal medullary cells

Riassunto Nella presente ricerca si dimostra che nella midollare surrenale di ratto adulto, esaminata completamente con sezioni in serie, esistono mitosi delle cellule cromaffini. Se ne stabilisce il numero ed i rapporti con il ritmo nictemerale.

Steroid hormones in the testicular tissue ofGallus domesticus

Riassunto Nel tessuto testicolare diGallus domesticus sono stati identificatii seguenti ormoni steroidi: pregnenolone (127 µg/kg), progesterone (66,5 µg/kg), androstenedione (2,4 µg/kg), testosterone (35 µg/kg), 20-idrossipregn-4-ene-3-one (30,5 µg/kg). Questi risultati dimostrano che il testicolo di pollo secerne gli steroidi della principale via biosintetica degli androgeni. La concentrazione relativamente alta di 20-idrossipregn-4-ene-3-one viene discussa alla luce delle ricerche sul metabolismo in vitro del progesterone.

Cycloheximide-induced ultrastructural changes in the adrenal cortex of the rat

Zusammenfassung Cycloheximid als allgemeiner Inhibitor der Proteinsynthese verursacht submikroskopische Veränderungen in der Nebennierenrinde der Ratte. Kompaktes Material und konzentrische Membranstrukturen im Zytoplasma von Zellen der Zona fasciculata finden sich um Mitochondrien und Lipidtropfen.     

The demonstration of lysosomes in the bovine adrenal medulla

Zusammenfassung Die Gomori-Reaktion für saure Phosphatase wurde an Nebennierenmarkschnitten von Rindern durchgeführt. Ihre elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung ergab die Lokalisierung der Enzymaktivität in den Lysosomen. Chromaffine Granula und Mitochondrien zeigten keine Aktivität.     

Subcellular steroid distribution in the rat adrenal cortex

Summary The subcellular distribution of main steroids (pregnenolone, progesterone, corticosterone) and of cholesterol — this last after correction according to exchanges occuring during differential centrifugation — is presented in the rat adrenal cortex. The distribution patterns are not necessarly the same as established according to the localization of hydroxylating enzymes.This work was carried out under contract of the Ministère de la Politique Scientifique within the framework of the Association: Euratom, University of Brussels, University of Pise and also thanks to a grant of the Caisse Générale d'Epargne et de Retraite.     

Diurnal rhythm in the adrenal ascorbic acid concentration of the rat

Zusammenfassung Der tägliche Rhythmus des Ascorbinsäuregehalts in den Nebennieren von Ratten wurde untersucht. Es wurde beobachtet, dass der Ascorbinsäuregehalt um 16 h nachmittags am geringsten ist. Das absolute Gewicht der Nebennieren wiederum ist in der Nacht gegen 24 h am höchsten. Bei praktischen Arbeiten ist dieser Abfall im Ascorbinsäuregehalt der Nebennieren am Nachmittag zu berücksichtigen.
