A study of the enzyme activity in the seminal vesicles of castrated and hormone-replaced castrated mice.

Castration provokes a time-related decrease in weight, protein, beta-glucuronidase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity of seminal vesicles. A dose-dependent stimulation of these parameters is obtained with 5alpha-DHT. Cryproterone acetate counteracts the stimulatory effects due to androgen. Acid and alkaline phosphatases remain largely unaffected by these treatments.     

2-Br-alpha-ergokryptin: influence on fertility and lactation in the rat

The effects of alpha-ergocryptin and 2-bromo-alpha-ergocryptin on fertility and lactation in rats were studied. The inhibitory actions of alpha-ergocryptin on fertility and lactation in the rat are altered differentially in the 2-bromo derivative of this ergot alkaloid. It is therefore unlikely that the fertility-inhibiting and the lactation inhibiting effects of 2-bromo-alpha-ergocryptin are governed by a single mechanism of action.

Brain norepinephrine levels and turnover rates in castrated mice isolated for 13 months

Zusammenfassung Funktionsdynamik von Gehirn-Norepinephrin (NE) in kastrierten und scheinkastrierten männlichen, geschlechtsreifen (C57Br/6J)-Mäusen wurde nach 13 Monaten Isolierung untersucht. Kastrierung bewirkt starken Abfall des ursprünglichen Niveaus und der Stoffwechselgeschwinddigkeit von NE.

Strain influence on the immune response of mice to the friend virus

Résumé La méthode d'Immunoélectroadsorption a permis de déceler la présence d'anticorps contre le virus de Friend, non seulement dans les souches de souris résistantes, mais aussi dans les souches sensibles à ce virus.     

Induction of lactation in precancerous hyperplastic alveolar nodules in the mammary gland of C3H/He Crgl mice

Résumé La sécrétion lactée se produit dans les nodules alvéolaires hyperplastiques de la glande mammaire des souris femelles intactes de la souche C3H/He Crgi, à la suite de l'administration du cortisol et de l'stradiol, mais non pas après l'emploi de l'strogène avec le progestérone. Lorsque l'hypophyse, l'ovaire et la glande surrénale ont été enlevés, les nodules montrent une sécrétion lactée sous l'effet du cortisol et de la mammotropine ou de la somatotropine et indiquent une sensibilité différentielle aux combinaisons hormonales lactogènes.     

Day-night periodicity in pentobarbital response of mice and the influence of socio-psychological conditions

Résumé L'étude de la réaction de la souris à des doses anesthésiques de pentobarbital montre une périodicité nycthémérale. La réaction est forte pendant le jour, faible pendant la nuit. Chez les souris soumises à des conditions qui empêchent l'hypothermie ordinaire de se produire pendant l'anesthésie, l'amplitude de périodicité diminue. La périodicité disparaît le plus souvent lorsqu'on éclaire les souris sans interruption. L'amplitude de la périodicité diminue lorsque les souris sont parquées individuellement plutôt qu'en groupes. Les mécanismes physiologiques répondant à ces observations sont suggérés.

Effect of sex hormones on plasma cholesterol in castrated and noncastrated male rats

The administration of estradiol to both castrated and noncastrated male rats was associated with significantly increased plasma cholesterol levels as compared to controls, the estradiol in the noncastrated rats overriding the tendency of testosterone to lower plasma cholesterol.     

Sympathetic influence on cerebral blood volume: Time-dependent effect of decentralization of the superior cervical ganglia in mice

Zusammenfassung Neue Befunde über die Neuronale Regulation der Hirndurchblutung. Durchschneidung der präganglionären Fasern des Hals-Sy. verursachen eine starke Initiale und eine etwas weniger ausgeprägte dauerzunahme der Durchblutung, was durch Unterbechung der innervation und Sensitivierung der Rezeptoren erklärt wird.
