Summary Although bacterial polysaccharides are broken down in the serum of various animals, polysaccharides in the plasma of the same animal are largely stable. The importance of this finding is discussed with respect to the biological behaviour of polysaccharides.

Spezifische Wirkung einiger tierischer und bakterieller Polysaccharide auf Leucocytenin vitro

Summary Different purified polysaccharides, mucopolysaccharides, phosphatides and carbohydrat-sulfonic acids have been investigated for their effect on stimulation of leucocytic migrationin vitro. The bacterial polysaccharides of proteus,S. marcescens, shiga and shiga fullantigen, have been found to be of high specific activity. All other compounds have much less or no activity. Therefore it might be concluded that the type of bacterial polysaccharides which promote leucocytic migration belong to a highly specific group.

Summary The metabolic processes leading to meiosis inSabellaria spinulosa were investigated with cytochemical methods (PAS-reaction for polysaccharides, and basic dyes in combination with ribonuclease applied for the detection of ribonucleic acid) and the use of specific inhibitors. Before the beginning of meiotic prophase, polysaccharides and later ribonucleic acid appear in the nuclear sap and become incorporated into the spindle. 2,4-dinitrophenol and NaN₃, which inhibit the formation of energy-rich phosphates, prevent the accumulation of polysaccharides and RNA in the nucleus and the formation of the meiotic spindle. KCN and mono-iodoacetic acid are without influence on polysaccharide and RNA metabolism of the nucleus. The first and second meiotic division are normal, but cleavage is completely suppressed. From these results the following conclusions may be drawn: (1) the division of the nucleus is dependant on the presence of energy-rich phosphate, (2) the division occurs without respiration, and (3) respiration is important for cell division only in so far as it provides the synthesis of energy-rich phosphates.

Summary Live gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria cause circular and chemotactic eccentric promotion of leucocyte emigration in a similar manner. In the case of gramnegative bacteria this effect corresponds to that of their polysaccharides, whereas in the case of gram-positive bacteria the polysaccharides are inactive.Thus, although gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria both have a similar effect on leucocyte emigration, the underlying mechanism of action is different.

DL- or LL-diaminopimelic acid in the peptidoglycan, 2. sugar composition of polysaccharides, 3. fatty acid spectrum of cell lipids. The occurrence of various kinds of branched fatty acids and of unsaturated fatty acids is of special value.

Certain mucoproteins show both effects, others only provoke the formation of vesicles. Both reactions are thus separable components of the phenomenon of inflammation.

Summary Polysaccharide fractions derived from a gram-negative proteus organism show strong anti-lipaemic activity of the order of 1000 times that of heparin. Analogous preparations from gram-positive organisms and mycobacteria show no such activity and some polysaccharide fractions from plant and animal tissues proved to have slight activity. None of these polysaccharides influenced the clotting of plasmain vitro.     

Peptide-polysaccharides isolated from the culture medium of the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis pathogenic to man

A peptido-polysaccharide isolated from the culture medium of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis has been studied. The crude product is a mixture of several polysaccharides releasing, by hydrolysis glucose, mannose and galactose. The purified fraction contains mannose (88%) and galactose (12%). This galactomannan has a molecular weight varying between 4.6.10(4) and 2.6.10(4). It is associated with a peptide containing four amino-acids.

以海带为原料提取褐藻酸钠,并对褐藻酸钠的脱色方法进行研究.分别采用活性碳、次氯酸钠、过氧化氢和大孔树脂NAR-9、ADS-22、ADS-8对褐藻酸钠进行脱色.通过对多糖脱色率比较发现,四种方法对褐藻酸钠均有脱色效果.次氯酸钠脱色率较高但多糖保留率较低,树脂脱色法明显优于次氯酸钠、过氧化氢和活性发.     

Comparative study of the glycosidases of 2 Lepidoptera wood-eating Cossidae (Cossus cossus L., and Zeuzera pyrina L.) and various wood-eating Coleoptera]

The authors present here the results of their research concerning the study of the osidases of the caterpillars Cossus cossus L. and Zeuzera pyrina L. (Lepidoptera Cossidae). Its enzyme equipment shows very important differences compared to the different species of Scolytidae, Cerambycidae, Curculionidae and Buprestidae. The differences are lie especially in the absence of some osidases acting on polysaccharides (hémicelluloses and cellulose).     

Effect of papain on experimental amyloidosis

Experimental amyloidosis was induced in mice by repeated injections of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) reinforced with a bacterial vaccine. Papain was administered i.p. at various time intervals during the treatment with CFA. Amyloidosis was found only in the spleen and the liver. No statistically significant differences were found between the papain-treated and the control groups. It is assumed that, although papain releaseed the polysaccharide moiety from the polysaccharide protein complex, the released polysaccharides were most probably bound by electrostatic forces to the amyloid fibres, and did not interfere with amyloidogenesis.
