Antigenic similarity of humanα 1-antitrypsin to a corresponding protein in the serum of non-human primates

Zusammenfassung Mit der Methode der Präzipitationshemmung nachHerzenberg et al.⁶ wurde die Kreuzreaktion von Seren subhumaner Primaten mit einem Antiserum gegen menschliches ₁-Antitrypsin gemessen. Die Ergebnisse stimmen mit der geltenden Taxonomie gut überein. ₁-Antitrypsin hat sich während der Evolution offenbar weniger konservativ verhalten als Serumalbumin.

Production and characterization of antibodies cross-reactive with major aflatoxins

Antibodies cross-reactive with 4 major aflatoxins were demonstrated three weeks after immunization of rabbits with an immunogen which was prepared by conjugating aflatoxin B₃ to bovine serum albumin. Aflatoxin B₃ was first converted to its hemisuccinate before conjugation to the protein. Tritiated aflatoxin B₁ (AFB₁) was used as the marker ligand both for antibody titer determination as well as for analysis of antibody specificity. Competitive RIA revealed that the antibodies have good cross-reactivity with aflatoxins B₁, B₂, G₁, and G₂ when tritiated AFB₁ was used as the marker ligand. The concentrations causing 50% inhibition of binding of³H-AFB₁ to the antibodies by unlabeled aflatoxins B₁, B₂, G₁, G₂ and B₃ were found to be 0.25, 3.34, 0.32, 4.0 and 0.53 ng/assay, respectively. The antibodies could be used for simultaneous analysis of aflatoxins B₁ and G₁, two of the most important toxic metabolites produced byAspergillus flavus andA. parasiticus.     

Selective potentiating effects of metal ions on vasopressom

Zusammenfassung Der Effekt von Na⁺-, NH₄ ⁺- und Ca⁺⁺-Ionen auf die Blutdruckaktivität von Arginin-Vasopressom wurde untersucht und mit analogen Experimenten (Val⁵-Angiotensin II-Asp¹--Amid) verglichen. Die Wirkungsweise der Ionen-induzierten Potenzierung von Vasopressin wird diskutiert.

Zusammenfassung Gibt man L(+)-Lysin--¹⁵N oder in allen Stellungen mit¹⁴C markiertes L(+)-Lysin zu keimfreien Kulturen von abgeschnittenen Wurzeln vonNicotiana tabacum, so erzeugen die Wurzeln Nikotin, welches kleine Mengen¹⁵N oder¹⁴C enthält. Ferner enthält das Nikotin mehr¹⁵N oder¹⁴C im Pyrrolidinring als im Pyridinring. Lysin liegt daher nicht auf dem direkten biogenetischen Weg zum Nikotin.

Nach⁹⁰Sr--Strahlung wird angenommen, dass Cerenkov-Effekt- und induzierte Fluoreszenz-Lichterzeugung die-ERG-Reaktion deutlich beeinflussen.

Ar1-5 and Ar2-6 aryl participation in ionic and free radical processes

Zusammenfassung Die Beteiligung von Arylgruppen in Solvolysen von 4-Aryl-1-butylhalogeniden und Arylsulfonaten sowie in Reaktionen von freien 4-Aryl-1-butyl-radikalen wird diskutiert. Bei geeignet methoxylierten oder hydroxy-lierten 4-Aryl-1-butylverbindungen kann die Formolyse entweder mit Ar₁-5-oder Ar₁-6-Arylbeteiligung verlaufen. Dies führt zur Bildung von Tetralin. Da bei Ar₁-5-Beteiligung ein Spirocarboniumion entsteht, in welchem entweder C oder C der ursprünglichen Butylseitenkette wandern kann, ist es möglich, dass ein anderes Tetralin geformt wird als auf dem direkteren Ar₂-6-Weg. Als Beispiel dient die Formolysenreaktion von 4-p-Anisyl-4-methyl-1-pentylbrombenzolsulfonat.

Adrenocorticotropic effect in humans of a syntheticβ 1–24 corticotrophine derivative

Zusammenfassung Am Menschen wurde die adrenocorticotrope Wirkung von ^1–24 Corticotrophin Tetracosactid undd-Serin¹-17, 18 Diornithin ^1–24 Corticotrophin nach i.m. Injektion untersucht. Das synthetische Derivat erwies sich als etwa fünfmal stärker wirksam als das natürliche Tetracosactid, hauptsächlich durch eine Verlängerung der Wirkungsdauer.

Cation inhibition of DNA synthesis in mammary epithelial cells in vitro

Zusammenfassung Lithium- und Ammoniumionen verhindern den Anfang der DNA-Synthese im Milchdrüsenepithel in vitro. Die Replikation von DNA, nach dem Anfang derS-Periode, wird jedoch nicht verhindert. Production and characterization of antibody against aflatoxin M1

Summary Antibody against aflatoxin M₁ was obtained after immunization of rabbits with bovine serum albumin-afla M₁ oxime conjugate. The antibody has greatest binding efficiency for afla M₁, and was less efficient for afla B₁. Cross-reaction of antibody with aflatoxin Q₁, aflatoxicol, and aflatoxin B_2a was weak. Aflatoxin B₂, G₁, and G₂ and afla B₁-guanine adduct showed almost no cross-reaction with the antibody. The sensitivity of the binding assay for aflatoxin M₁ detection is in the range of 1–10 ng per assay. The properties of an arginine auxotroph ofSalmonella typhimurium

Résumé L'auteur décrit un mutant auxotrophe pour l'arginine chezSalmonella typhimurium. Les prototrophes arg⁺ sont induits par les rayons UV, MnCl₂ et méthane sulfonate d'éthyle. Le-propiolactone est moins efficace pour l'induction des arg⁺. La transduction avec le bactériophage PLT-22 cultivé sur une souche prototrophe donne arg⁺ à une fréquence de 1/10⁷ bactériophages. Le mutant arg^– est fécond ni avec les souches d'Escherichia coli K-12 HfrC et HfrH ni avec trois souches deKlebsiella pneumoniae.

The X-ray analysis of the structure of rifamycin Y

Riassunto La struttura cristallina dellap-iodio anilide della rifamicina Y è stata determinata con metodi tridimensionali a temperatura ambiente. La cella elementare monoclina, gruppo spaziale P2₁, ha i parametria = 9,49,b = 18,96,c = 15,30 Å, = 90°48, e contiene due molecole.La costituzione e la configurazione della rifamicina Y, C₃₉H₄₇NO₁₅, risultano quindi determinate attraverso lo studio cristallografico della suap-iodio anilide. Anche molte informazioni sulla configurazione della rifamicina Y possono essere tratte dalla configurazione allo stato solido di questo suo derivato.

Interaction oft alleles at theT locus in the house mouse

Zusammenfassung Mehrfach wurde gezeigt, dass zwei rezessive letale Allele in der Hausmaus (t ^o undt ¹) lebensfähige normale Tiere in heterozygoter Kombinationt ⁰/t ¹ produzieren. Neuere Daten machen wahrscheinlich, dass dast ¹-Allel mutativ abänderte, so dass sowohl seine homozygote Wirkung als auch die Zusammenwirkung mitt ⁰ beeinflusst worden ist. Hingegen sind Kombinationen vont ⁰ und dem neuen Allel nicht mehr lebensfähig, und Homozygote sterben erst nach der Implantation.

Pancreatic islet cell damage in mice produced by coxsackie B1 and encephalomyocarditis viruses

Zusammenfassung In den -Zellen der Langerhans'schen Inseln des Pankreas wurden Viruskristalle von mit Encephalomyocarditis-Virus oder Coxsackie-B₁0Virus infizierten Mäusen gefunden. Die Inselzellen zeigten sowohl leichte als auch schwere Schädigung.
