Arrangement of nucleosomes in condensed chromatin fibres

Summary Condensed chromatin shows globules of 300 Å formed by 8 to 10 nucleosomes. Each globule might be an uncoiled turn of a supercoil. This supercoil forms major coils along the fibre.This work was supported by grants from Brazilian CNPq, FAPESP and FEDIB.We thank Dr A. The use of radioactive bands in tracing hibernating bats

Zusammenfassung Winterschlafende Fledermäuse wurden mit Ringen markiert, die radioaktives Antimonium (¹²⁴Sb) enthielten.Dadurch konnte gezeigt werden, dass in unzugänglilichen Felsspalten ein unsichtbares Fledermausreservoir vorhanden ist. Ferner wurde gezeigt, dass im Verlaufe des Winters Wechsel von Höhle zu Höhle stattfinden.Im Januar 1956 wurden in einer Höhle 26 Fledermäuse gefangen, mit radioaktiven Ringen markiert und in einer 6 km entfernten Höhle ausgesetzt. Nach einem Tag konnte in der Ausgangshöhle der erste Rückkehrer festgestellt werden und kurz hernach 7 weitere Tiere.     

Orientation of Giemsa C-bands in interphase cells of Allium cepa L.

Orientation of Giemsa C-bands in Allium cepa was studied in both mitotic and interphase cells. It has been shown that telophase orientation of the chromosome is maintained throughout the interphase and early phophase. It has been assumed that this non-random orientation is due to anchorage of the telomeres with the nuclear membrane. Contrary to earlier observations, 2 by 2 pairing of the telomers could not be traced to this species.

Summary Orientation of Giemsa C-bands in Allium cepa was studied in both mitotic and interphase cells. Initiation of mitosis in interphase plasmodia ofPhysarum polycephalum by coalescence with premitotic plasmodia

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass eine Kernteilung innerhalb sehr kurzer Zeit eintritt, wenn Teile eines Plasmodiums vonPhysarum polycephalum, das zur Teilung ansetzt, mit Teilen von Plasmodien verschmolzen werden, die sich in Ruhe befinden. Daraus wird auf eine stoffliche Induktion zur Mitose geschlossen.

Initiation of mitosis in post-mitotic nuclei ofPhysarum polycephalum

Zusammenfassung Durch Fusion von Mikroplasmodien des SchleimpilzesPhysarum polycephalum wird der Mitosecyclus ihrer Kerne synchronisiert. Durch künstlich verzögerte Fusion können Tochterkerne einer soeben erfolgten Mitose zur Teilnahme an der ersten synchronen Mitose nach der Fusion gezwungen werden, bevor die morphologische Rekonstitution und die Duplikation ihrer DNS vollendet sind.

Mitosis and polyploidy in nuclei ofOpalina ranarum

Résumé Dans certaines populations deOpalina ranarum nous avons trouvé d'importantes différences dans la grandeur des noyaux. Ces différences tiennent au degré de polyploïdisation. Les grands polyploïdes conservent la faculté de se diviser par mitose.     

Autoradiographic studies on collagen in plant nuclei

Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe von radioaktiv markiertem Prolin wird autoradiographisch das Vorkommen von Collagen im Matrixeiweiss pflanzlicher Zellkerne festgestellt.
