Effect of detoxin D on blasticidin S uptake inBacillus cereus

Summary The active transport of blasticidin S into the cells ofBacillus cereus was significantly inhibited by the addition of detoxin D or poisons of energy metabolism.The authors are grateful to Prof. M. Zusammenfassung Der Zusatz von einer hohen Dosis Penicillin (1,000 E/ml) zu sporulierender Kultur vonBacillus cereus hemmt den⁴⁵Calcium-Einbau und die Synthese der Dipicolinsäure. In der Folge wird der Gehalt dieser Komponenten erniedrigt und das Cytoplasma der Sporen ins Medium gelöst. In der Kultur findet man nach der Lösung der mit Penicillin behandelten Sporangia meistens die Mantelstrukturen. Auswaschung mit verdünnter Chlorwasserstoffsäure zeigt eine deutlich schnellere Auswaschung des Calciums als die der Dipicolinsäure aus den mit Penicillin behandelten Sporangia.

The effects of nicotinamide on heat resistance of spores ofBacillus cereus T

Zusammenfassung Nicotinamide hemmt die Synthese von Dipicolinsäure (DPA) und die Entwicklung der Hitzeresistenz vonBacillus cereus T Sporen. Nicotinsäure hat keinen Effekt. Zugabe von DPA kann die Hitzsensitivität, die durch Nicotinamide induziert wurde, nicht rÜckgängig machen.     

Biochemical studies on peptide alkaloids: Induction of ion selective mitochondrial swelling

Summary The effect of frangulanine, a cyclopeptide alkaloid isolated fromHovenia dulcis Thunb., on mitochondrial swelling was studied. Frangulanine induced mitochondrial swelling in 0.15 M KCl solution at the concentration of 6.5 M. The alkaloid showed ion selectivity on the induction of mitochondrial swelling. Upon addition of frangulanine, mitochondria underwent swelling in 0.15 M KCl or RbCl solution but in neither NaCl nor LiCl solution.
