Quantitative changes of the free phospholipids in the sea-urchin egg at fertilization

Riassunto Nelle uova diArbacia lixula si osserva una diminuzione di fosfolipidi liberi nei primi minuti dopo la fecondazione, seguita poi da un aumento che riporta, nel corso di 15 min circa, la quantità di fosfolipidi liberi al valore delle uova vergini. Non pare che vi sia alcuna variazione quantitativa nella frazione dei fosfolipidi legati.     

Quantitative aspects of structural changes in chorioallantoic placenta of the rat during its development

Summary Volume analysis of chorioallantoic placenta of the rat from day 12 through day 22 of fetal development shows quantitatively the changes in volume density of fetal and maternal parts, and changes of volume fractions of structural components along with the increase of absolute volume of the placenta.This work was supported by a grant of the Republic Research fund of Croatia No. 18-04-06/19-1977.     

Quantitative changes in the phosphorus fractions of transplanted brain tumors during complete ischemic incubation

Zusammenfassung Glukose, Glykogen, Milchsäure, ATP und 5 phosphathaltige Fraktionen wurden an experimentellen, anärobisch-inkubierten Hirntumoren bestimmt. Die Mengen anorganischen Phosphats und Milchsäure waren grösser als die vom Katabolismus niedermolekularer Substanzen erwarteten. Die Möglichkeit besteht, dass die Pentose aus Nukleinsäuren und säurelöslichen Oligonukleotiden als Quelle der überschüssigen Milchsäure entstammt. Dies würde unter anärobischen Bedingungen eine weitere Energiereserve für Tumorzellen darstellen.     

Quantitative changes in beta-adrenergic responses of isolated atria from hyper- and hypothyroid rats

Concentration-response curves for the chronotropic and inotropic effects of isoprenaline, in the absence and presence of propranolol, were obtained on heart atria isolated from normo- or dysthyroid rats. Hyperthyroidism increased the chronotropic potency and efficacy of the beta-adrenergic agonist. The results are compatible with the view that thyroid hormone increases the density of functional beta-adrenoceptors in cardiac pacemaker tissue.     

Quantitative morphological investigations on smooth muscle cells in vascular surgical specimens and their clinical importance.

A distinct distribution of activated SMC could be demonstrated in atherosclerotic plaques and the neighbouring media of human beings. An increased proliferation was found in the younger age group and generally in the marginal regions of the plaques. The occurrence of activated SMC is thought to be a sequel of metabolic hypoxic damages. A high frequency of activated SMC is a bad prognostic sign in surgical specimens indicating a tendency for proliferation and occlusion.
