Drug interactions in intestinal absorption of 3H-digitoxin in rats.

The absorption of 3H-digitoxin from perfused rat small intestine was inhibited by probenecid (1.0 x 10-2 M), ethacrynic acid (0.5 x 10-3 M), and mersalyl (8.0 x 10-3 M) indicating that digitoxin absorption is at least partly an active process.

Changes in intestinal absorption of glucose in rats treated with ethanol

Riassunto Gli Autori hanno indagato se l'intossicazione subacuta da etanolo provoca nel ratto alterazioni dell'assorbimento intestinale del glucosio. L'assorbimento intestinale del glucosio è diminuito in maniera statisticamente significativa nei ratti trattati per 2 e 7 giorni ed è risultato quasi normale in quelli trattati per 20 giorni con etanolo.     

Effect of sulphates on the intestinal absorption of Sr-85 in rats

Zusammenfassung Unter diversen Sulfaten zeigte die Kombination Barium-Natriumsulfat bei frühzeitiger Applikation stärkste Reduktion des Radiostrontiumgehalts im Skelett (über 90%).     

Small intestinal absorption ofd-galactose and water in fasted and alloxan diabetic rats

Zusammenfassung Leerdarm- und Krummdarm-Aufsaugung vond-Galaktose und Wasser wurde mit einer Pumpendurchströmung in vivo bei normalen und Alloxan-diabetischen Ratten geprüft. 24 Stunden Fasten erhöhte die Aufnahmefähigkeit normaler Ratten, ergab aber keinen Unterschied zwischen normalen Ratten beim Fasten und solchen, die mit Alloxan für 24, 48 und 72 Stunden diabetisch wurden.

Effect of phosphates,carbonates, and magnesium oxide upon the intestinal absorption of Sr-85 in rats

Zusammenfassung Unter diversen Phosphaten, Karbonaten und Magnesium-Oxyd zeigte die Kombination Trikalzium-Dinatriumphosphat im Skelett die stärkste Reduktion des Radiostrontinumgehalts (fast 90%).

Riassunto Nell'intestino tenue di ratto in vivo è stato osservato che la concentrazione intracellulare di glucosio o di 3-O-metilglucosio, durante l'assorbimento di questi zuccheri, è sempre minore che nel siero. Ciò lascia presumere che esista una pompa per l'estrusione degli zuccheri a livello della membrana serosale delle cellule assorbenti intestinali.

Interaction between sugars and amino acids in intestinal absorption by rat, in vivo.

The inhibitory action of L-leucine on the intestinal absorption of D-glucose and D-galactose, as well as the inhibitory action of D-galactose on the absorption of L-leucine at various concentrations by rat small intestine has been studied. The further effect was more clearly evidenced when the medium was perfunded through the intestine in a closed circuit system using a peristaltic pump.

Hepatic proline after bile duct ligation in rats

Since biliary hyperplasia of fascioliasis correlated with hepatic proline level, we examined the occurrence of a similar chemical stimulus during bile obstruction. Uptake of tritiated proline and glycine rose in both hepatocytes and a bile duct enriched cell fraction, following duct ligation in rats. The increased hepatic content of proline but not glycine suggests that proline has a role in post-obstructive biliary proliferation.     

Small intestinal absorption of simple sugars and water in the cat

Résumé A égale concentration, les taux d'absorption dud-glucose et du D-galactose dans le jéjunum et l'iléum du chat sont identiques. Ils dépassent nettement ceux dud-xylose. En cela, l'absorption du sucre simple dans l'intestin grêle du chat est semblable à celle qui s'observe chez les autres mammifères.     

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids fromSymphytum officinale L. and their percutaneous absorption in rats

Summary An analysis of a commercial sample of Symphyti radix originating from Poland with a total alkaloid content of 0.07% revealed the presence of 7 pyrrolizidine alkaloid-N-oxides: 7-acetyl intermedine, 7-acetyl lycopsamine as the main constituents and lycopsamine, intermedine, symphytine and traces of 2 further not yet identified alkaloids. The percutaneous absorption of these alkaloids was investigated in rats, using a crude alcoholic extract of the plant corresponding to a dose of 194 mg alkaloid-N-oxides/kg b.wt. The excretion of N-oxides in the urine during 2 days was in the range of 0.1–0.4% of the dose. The dermally absorbed N-oxides are not or only to a small extent converted to the free alkaloids in the organism. The oral application led to a 20–50 times higher excretion of N-oxides and free alkaloids in the urine.We thank Dr C. C.J. Noninvolvement of a rat intestinal folate binding protein in physiological folate absorption

Folic acid and its derivatives are observed to be instantaneously bound to rat intestinal mucosal cell curface binding protein. Various parameters were measured such as the optimal pH for binding (6.5), the saturation kinetics observed for folate binding and the avid affinity with which polyglutamyl folates are preferentially bound to the binder. A comparison of the observed results with the conditions reported as favorable for intestinal folate absorption in the rat precludes the involvement of this folate-binding protein in the physiological absorption of folates.     

The intestinal absorption of methionine in chickens provided with permanent Thiry-Vella fistulas

Zusammenfassung Die Darmresorption von Methionin und seine Analoge bei Hühnern wurde in vivo untersucht. Das Verhältnis der mittleren Resorption vonl- undd-Methionin stimmt befriedigend überein mit aus In-vitro-Versuchen erhaltenen Aussagen über Kinetik und Konstanten. Es wurden verhältnismässig niedrige Transportgeschwindigkeiten gemessen für die N-azetylierten und Hydroxyanalogen von Methionin.

Intestinal absorption of D-Xylose by germfree rats

Résumé Les observations faites sur les rats gnotobiotiques et les rats normaux montrent que l'absorption ded-xylose est beaucoup plus elevée chez les rats normaux que chez les rats gnotobiotiques. Cette différence est attribuée au changement de transport muqueux produit par la présence de microrganismes intestinaux.     

Role of bacterial endotoxins in intestinal ischemic (SMA) shock

Zusammenfassung Es werden Versuche zur Aufklärung der Rolle der gram-negativen Bakterien im irreversiblen ischämischen Darmschock durchgeführt: Ratten erweisen sich unter dem Einfluss einer milden Form von ischämischem Darmschock keinesfalls für Endotoxemia empfindlicher als falsch operierte oder normale Tiere, die dieselben Dosen von bakteriellem Endotoxin erhalten haben. Dadurch wird die Rolle der Endotoxemia in der Pathogenese des irreversiblen Darmschocks fragwürdig.     

Intestinal absorption of glucose immediately after vincristin administration in rats

Summary Vincristin leads to a time-dependent decrease of glucose absorption. Thus it is not possible to combine experiments which seek simultaneous information on intestinal absorption and epithelial replacement.Acknowledgements. I amd greatful to Prof.R. M.
