A new direct method for the assay of human renin

Résumé Nous avons instituté une nouvelle méthode directe pour l'estimation du rénin par l'immunoélectrophorèse. Les résultats préliminaires obtenus par cette méthode indiquent que des changements importants peuvent se faire dans l'activité enzymatique du rénin dans le cas de patients ayant de l'hypertension rénale.

A new drug against Paragonimus infection

Summary An oral dose of 50–100 mg/kg b.wt of a new anthelmintic, albendozole, for 2–3 weeks killed adult flukes and stopped shedding of ova of Paragonimus kellicotti in experimentally infected cats. No clinical signs related to treatment were recognized. This low toxicity of albendozole may be useful in treating human paragonimiasis.     

Arylpyridyl-thiosemicarbazones: A new class of anti-juvenile hormones active against Lepidoptera

Summary A new class of anti-juvenile hormone agents is described. Active anti-juvenile hormone compounds were either diazine thiosemicarbazones or aryl substituted pyridyl thiosemicarbazones, synthesized from substituted benzaldehydes. While many analogs in these classes showed feeding and growth inhibition in a variety of insects, a select group caused formation of precocious pupal characteristics inAgrotis ipsilon (black cutworm) andHeliothis virescens (tobacco budworm) and black cuticle and precocious pupae inManduca sexta (tobacco hornworm). They were active only by diet incorporation. The symptoms of precocious development could be reversed by co-administration of a juvenoid. One of the active compounds was shown to inhibit juvenile hormone biosynthesis in vitro by corpora allata of the cockroachDiploptera punctata. However, none of the compounds were active inhibitors of purified chicken liver prenyl transferase.     

A new method in cytospectrophotometry

Zusammenfassung Versuch der Anwendung einer colorimetrischen Methode für die Zytospektrophotometrische Untersuchung biologischer Systeme. Als geeignetes Untersuchungsobjekt erwies sich der Lymphozytenkern mit seiner besonderen Empfindlichkeit gegenüber mutagenen Agentien. Die Methode erlaubt ein präzises Verfolgen der verursachten Veränderungen.     

A new synthetic method of coumestan derivatives

Zusammenfassung Die Synthese von 7-Hydroxy-5,6-dimethoxybenzofurano[3,2:3,4]coumarin aus 7,2-Dihydroxy-oder 7-Benzyloxy-2-hydroxy-4,5-dimethoxyisoflavon wird beschrieben.     

The endothelium-dependent relaxation of human middle cerebral artery: Effects of activated neutrophils

Neutrophils, activated by 4-phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate, decreased acetylcholine-induced relaxation of strips of human middle cerebral artery precontracted with noradrenaline. This effect was prevented by catalase, but not by superoxide dismutase. Nifedipine, propranolol and, less markedly, captopril reduced the decrease in acetylcholine-induced relaxation. Aspirin and dipyridamole did not reduce it.

A new compound effective against acute fascioliasis in sheep

Zusammenfassung 2-Acetoxy-4-chlor-3,5-dijodbenzanilid zeigte eine hohe Wirksamkeit gegen junge und gereifteF. hepatica andH. controtus in Schaften bei einer oralen Dosis von 25 und 40 mg/kg. Die gute Verträglichkeit der Verbindung in Schafen ergab sich aus Feldversuchen in Australien.
