Abstract:With the increase of water use and pollution of the north canal, the river was seriously polluted. In order to improve the actuality, phytoplankton and physicochemieal factors were investigated and analyzed. It is expected that the study can provide basis for comprehensive management and ecological restoration of the North River Canal. The monitoring results in 2010 showed that the average amount of Chlorophyll A was 135. 49μg/L and the average TSIM value of the five targets in North Canal being 92.6. That all indicated eutrophication. CODCr, BOD5 , TN, NH4-N and TP were major pollutants. Shannon-Weaver diversity index was 0. 16, which showed that North Canal belonged to seriously polluted river. The results of bivariate correlation analysis showed that Chlorophyll A was positively correlated with CODCr and TN at a significant level of alpha = 0. 01, while positively correlated with cell density of phytoplankton and NH4-N at a significant level of alpha = 0. 05. The phytoplankton community was composed of 86 species and distributed among 8 phylums in North Canal. The average density of phytoplankton was 2 730 × 10^4 cells/L,with Cyanophyta and Chlorophyta being the dominant groups.
