The leading approaches to measuring sustainable development are introduced and reviewed,and the different types of indicators to measuring sustainable development are classified into three major types:indicators based on system theory and methods,indicators relied on economic valuation of the environment,and sustainability indicators included biophsical assessments.Ecological footprints methods based on biophysical assessments are introduced in detail.It was invented to make the ecological condition of sustainability measurable.Ecological footprint model offers a methodologically simple but comprehensive way for such task.It tracks national economics,energy and resources throughout and translates them into biologically productive areas necessary to produce these flows,also,it compares this resources and energy consumption to the ecologicl capacity available in the nation or country level.
