The review on toxic effects,toxicity mechanism and health risk of dioxin and chemically related compounds for people is presented.Because they are long lived in environment and can accumulate in the tissues of animals and humans,dioxins and dioxin like compounds present a series of high toxicties,such as carcinogenicity,mutaginicity,deformativity,inhibition of reproduction and development,reduction of immunity and so on.Dioxin type compounds can alter the fundamental growth and development of cells in a way which may lead to a variety of adverse impacts upon reproduction and development in animals and potentially in people such as cancer,metabolic disorder and reduced immunity,which in turn will result in variety of disease symptoms and even potentially the HIV infection.Simultaneously,the policy and programs are probed to control dioxin exposure and human health risk in China.
