| Abstract: | Edith Wharton is the most important woman novelist in the fifty years after the American Civil War,who created the two heroines as either "monster" or "angel" in conformity with the traditional patriarchal stereotypes of "bad" or "good" women in Ethan Frome and not having incompletely female consciousness. |
