Abstract:Aim: To study the relationship between MBV infection and fatty metabolism. Method: The fat average levels of mid-gut gland in healthy Penaeus monodon and in P. monodon infected with Penaeus monodon baculovirus (MBV) were detected by Soxhlet method. Results: The fat average level was 34.28% of dry weight or 9.60% of wet weight and the water average content was 71.06% in healthy P. monodon . The fat average level was 31.52% of dry weight or 9.58% of wet weight and the water average content was 69.31% in P. monodon lightly infected with MBV. There was no distinct difference between healthy P. monodon and P. monodon lightly infected with MBV in fat level and water content ( P >0.30, P >0.90 and P >0.40). The fat average level was 56.42% of dry weight or 24.14% of wet weight and the water average content was 57.22% in P. monodon heavily infected with MBV. The fat level was distinctly higher ( P <0.001) and the water content was distinctly lower ( P <0.001) as compared with those in healthy P. monodon and that lightly infected with MBV. Conclusion: There was metabolic disorder in mid-gut gland heavily infected with MBV.
