Aim To show the lessons and enlightenments that are drawn from the success story of Gilbert Stork(1921-),a well-known American organic chemist,to readers.Method After the analysis,induction and summarization of various papers and documents related to the life stories of Gilbert Stork,the main reasons for the success of Gilbert Stork are found.Result Beginning with the introduction of Gilbert Stork,the main reasons for his success are investigated.The contributing reasons for Stork’s success include his adventurous spirit,love for experiment,practical attitude,innovativeness,admiration for genius,great ambition,advocacy of science,love for chemistry,pursuit of organic chemistry,wisdom of being realistic and adaptation to the environment in his growth;his self-assertion,confidence,optimism,indifference to fame and wealth,sacrifice for science in academic career;his courage in breaking through tradition;the leadership in employing the most competent,the cooperation in team management and talent attraction as well as the master-apprentice system of education.Conclusion It is because of his own efforts and the external environment that Gilbert Stork succeeds,however,his own hard work plays a decisive role in his success.
