Analysis of the Effect of OLTC on the Voltage Stability through Time Domain Simulation

The effect of OLTC on the voltage stability is analyzed through time domain simulation. It is shown that the dynamical adjustment of OLTC can lead to long term voltage instability after a small disturbance when the system lacks reactive power and both dynamic and static parts of load model are considered. The validity of locking the adjustment of OLTC to prevent the voltage collapse is explored. With the conception of the voltage stability region, the effect of OLTC on the voltage stability is analyzed after a large disturbance. If OLTC begins to be adjusted until the operating point passed across the voltage stability boundary after a disturbance, the dynamical adjustment of OLTC has no effect on the voltage stability.
