Abstract:Using CaCl_2 and polyamines as senescent delaying agents, the vigour impro-vement, membrane permeability and ethylene release in germinating peanut (Ar-achis hypogaea L.) seed were investigated. The material used was cultivar'Yueyou116'including the freshly harvested seed(high vigour seed)and seed with acceleratedageing(AA) (medium vigour seed)or seed with natural ageing(medium vigour seed).Besides the results of vigour inder, germination percentage and growth, ethylenerelease was assayed by gas chromatograph, and some physiological and biochemicalchanges concerning the permeability of membranes were also investigated. The seed vigour and seedling growth of peanut can be enhanced by seed treat-ment with CaCl_2 or putrescine(Put)and spermine (Spm). The optimal concentration was 0.1m mol/L Put, 0.05mmol/L Spm or 30m mol/L CaCl_2. In treated seeds with CaCl_2 or Put, ethylene release increased obviously.Several Ca-inhibitors decreased ethylene release Moreover, CaCl_2 and polyaminesdecreased the Condustivity, amount of K~+ and soluble protein in leachate of seed.They also increased the activities of peroxidase and catalase. It is suggested thatcalcium and polyamines are available for the repair of membrane permeability.
